Wis. GOP blasts plans for recall work near malls

By ASSOCIATED PRESS   Friday, November 25, 2011 - 11:11 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin Republicans are ripping Democrats' plans for recall signature drives near malls on Black Friday.

Democrats and their allies launched a drive to recall Republican Gov. Scott Walker earlier this month. They're angry over a number of Walker policies, including a law that stripped public workers of their union rights.

Recall organizers say signature gatherers planned to set up near malls, shopping centers and park-and-rides around the state Friday.

Republicans say the effort amounts to harassing shoppers. The party says businesses should call police if signature gatherers don't leave their property upon request and shoppers should report problems to the GOP's "Recall Integrity Center" website.

A spokeswoman for United Wisconsin, a coalition working to recall Walker, says volunteers are collecting signatures on public spaces near malls and other busy areas.

From the Janesville Gazette YESTERDAY:
.
"""The state Department of Workforce Development reported that Wiscons lost 9,300 PRIVATE SECTOR jobs last month and 9,700 overall - MORE THAN ANY OTHER STATE."""
.
We, the people of Wisconsin, have a unique opportunity to fix this problem. We made a mistake and elected someone who SOLD US OUT to the highest bidder.
.
If the numbers above are not enough to convince you...partisanship must be more important than our state and your neighbors.

T & S -- I'll bite -- the presidents of teachers' unions have their salaries set by voting representatives of their membership.

What does the CEO of a private corporation, employing more than 3 million people earn? Did the employees set his/her wages? Did they elect him/her based on his/her ideals, passion, and dedication to their product? If you figure that more than 3 million people contribute to a salary of less than 1/2 million dollars for a person they believe will best manage their professional organization and advocate for them in political arenas that control their resources and shape the demands of their jobs, it comes to less than $0.16 per person per year. Honestly, can't you do better than that? Thanks for the link. . . . just supports how few people in public unions actually earn in the six figure range. . .

I still can't see why a state employee needs a union? Is your work that hard and dangerous? Are the teachers schedules too demanding and unfair? Just asking.

Unions were founded by overworked, underpaid, harassed, exploited workers. That being said, the "Recall Walker" protest only took fire after the state workers lost some of their contract rights. And those that say that this recall effort is not about unions are delusional. It's funded and driven by union money.

So you have to give back some of your bargaining power to save the state money. Well welcome to reality. We have all had to give back to our employers benefit packages in tough times. It's not the end of the world as you seem to think. Things go back and forth. You really don't have anything to complain about as far as working conditions, vacations etc. We are all paying and have been paying more for Health care and Retirement for a couple of years at least.
You want to bring back jobs? Make Wisconsin a Right to Work State. I'll join your union if I want to. Performance based workforce will make us better and stronger. I do not need a union. Unions are in bed with politicians and just want your money. They have done a pretty poor job of saving American jobs in the last 20 years.

Your employer is the State. We are the State. We elected Walker and will do it again if you make us. Peace

LOL!!! Look what the OWSDEM political machine has created. A double signature (multiple petitions) is counted and requires a challenge before it is discounted.

-Some of the grounds for challenge and the resulting effect are: • Grounds: An elector has signed the recall petition more than once. Resulting Effect: The second and subsequent signatures are not counted.

I'm so tired of the press distilling the multitude of disastrous policies the Walker administration has created down to ‘union rights’. Are cuts to Badgercare and education funding, destruction of our clean water protections, using fraudulent excuses to justify spending millions on an unnecessary voter ID law or the out-of-the-starting-gate tax giveaway in S.B. 1 to corporations are such difficult concepts to understand?

Does your lack of journalistic ability prevent you from pointing out the fact that the governor's recent special session about jobs was about anything BUT jobs? Instead, the session included a bill to undermine sex education with the removal of contraception from the curriculum and the inclusion the proven failure of abstinence-only morality preaching.

And of course it's so easy for you to ignore the lost potential of $800M in Federal transportation funding that Walker turned down which could have provided over 5,000 jobs. Let's not forget how this this short-sighted blunder triggered even more jobs to be drained from our economy when the Spanish train car manufacturer left the state.

Your simplistic view of the reason for Walker's recall is insulting and panders to the narrow view you've been spoon-fed by his supporters and the feedback from sound bite sycophants who lap up his fabrications. If ‘union rights’ is all you can see behind the recall movement, you represent nothing more than a lazy embarrassment to the profession of journalism.

Wisconsin IS losing jobs at a quicker rate than the nation.
In October, nonfarm payroll employment increased in 39 states and the District of Columbia, and decreased in 11 states. The largest over-the-month increases in employment occurred in Illinois (+30,000) and California (+25,700). The largest over-the-month decrease in employment occurred in Wisconsin (-9,700), followed by New York (-8,300) and Minnesota (-6,100). The only state with an over-the-month statistically significant decline in employment was Wisconsin (-9,700).

What a bunch of whining babies the Democrats are. I guess democracy isn't good enough for them.

SUPPORT GOV. WALKER

I love that title also. What a great pleasure and joy it will be to see him win AGAIN in 2012 along with a major GOP landslide across the board in all the states. Anarchism never wins.

Being available to people is not the same as harassing -- please -- hear the spin. Reminds me of "violence" at the Capital. As a grandmother to 7 -- I find being referred to as a "union thug" hysterical. LOL

It is, if I understand correctly, legally impossible for a candidate to file to run in an election that has not yet been slated. Only if the recall petition is successful will the GAB slate a statewide election date and allow opposing candidates to announce. Since this election might not be possible until April, this is not the time for candidates to step forward. As with the State Senate recalls, there may need to be a primary, if only to handle the expected GOP tactic of a fake candidate.

Politics aside, both re: this recall attempt and in general, I am getting damned sick of the GOP's tactics. Why can't these guys let the process run its course and win or lose on their own merits? If you have to stoop to tampering with the process itself, you don't deserve to win.

Good luck getting the 500,000 signatures (legal ones) that are required. Then good luck finding a candidate to run. the irony is most of you left wing nut jobs will vote for anyone that isn't a republican. Look at Obama. How's that working out for you?

And yes this recall is about unions. The whole stomping and crying festival in Madison was a reaction to collective bargaining rights being taken away.

Bring on your recall. Try and get enough petitions. Then wait for it all to get tied up in the courts and Walker will finish his term by the time it is all resolved.

Ignorant union babies. Walker will win in the end. Your bitterness towards a fair election is funny. Enjoy your negative lives.

GO WALKER.

I'm sure the Republicans would prefer signatures be sought under a rock or perhaps in a cave somewhere.

Let the shoppers decide whether they want to sign or not. No one is forcing them and they're intelligent enough to make a decision of their own.

Why is that? Are you planning on committing fraud by signing more than 1 petition?

taxandspend: why would anyone want to announce they will run in opposition to walker in a recall?? a)there is no recall yet and 2) the republicans would just make it a debate about that candidate right away, rather than having to defend gov walker. Just like the repubs putting fake candidate in the summer recalls to delay the recall was good strategy, this also is good strategy.

Doyle lost our jobs and fed the unions. No new companies wanted to come to WI because of the taxes and the unions.

GO Walker. Outside of Madison and Janesville there are few recall supporters. Drive around up north and you will see plenty of Walker support signs.

If he seriously thinks this is all about unions, his eyes have been closed for months. This is about the governor taking from the working class and handing it over to his corporate interests that he thinks will keep him in office. This is about cutting $800 million from our schools. This is about increasing job losses in our state, with WI leading the nation last month with 9,700 jobs lost, 9,300 coming from the private sector. When you take money from the working class, who then lose ability to contribute to the local economy, more jobs get lost. Handing that money over to corporations just makes their wallets fatter and the average citizen poorer. Take away the unions along the way, and you've created a pathway to working peasants, with no voice for equality and fairness in the workplace, but rather just a feeble gratitude for work, at any pay. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer.

This is about his cronyism and abuse of power in office. We the people have a voice, and we're using it to get our state back.

Oh -I'm so sorry if just seeing someone on a public sidewalk holding a sign or offering people the opportunity to sign a recall petition that you, personally, disagree with causes you to be "uncomfortable". We all know that your comfort is so much more important than free speech. After all, the Tea Party is all about shredding the constitution to fit personal ideology. (/sarcasm)

You know, "Recall Walker" would be a great title for his Presidential memoirs. ☺

After he spends a couple of terms formatting Wisconsin into a permanent red state, I hope he runs for national office so we can begin cleaning up Washington the way he is cleaning up Wisconsin.

When I'm out in public I do not want to see this. If I want to sign the petition I will seek out the PROPER places to do just that. I would consider proper places to be Union Halls, Recall Walker offices, and my home only if I call someone to come there if I am not able to travel to said PROPER facility.

Funny how when the message doesn't fit the agenda of the party in power it's described as "harassment". Hmm, here I thought it was called free speech. Then again, politicians love to be able to turn the rights guaranteed in the Constitution on and off to suit their purposes. If as many Wisconsonites truly support the screwing of public employees as has been suggested by the Republicans, then they should have nothing to worry about should they.

Grasping at straws. they will do anything to TRY and save the one that has destroyed this State. FEAR THIS WALKER.. To ask a person to sign is not harassment so get over it. To canvas on public property is not against the law and BTW that is any PUBLIC BUILDING or LAND!!! With exception to areas not generally open to the PUBLIC. We better watch the GOP, as they may pass a law that makes all public buildings and land private without King Walkers written approval. RECALL WALKER
