State abortion numbers drop
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The number of abortions performed in Wisconsin dropped by more than 9 percent last year.
The Department of Health Services reported Friday that there were 7,825 abortions in 2010. That is down from 8,542 in 2009.
The rate of women aged 15-44 who had an abortion in 2010 was 6.8 per 1,000, down from 7 per 1,000 the year before. That is well below the national rate of 16 per 1,000 as of the most recent data available from 2007.
The decline comes after abortions increased 3.8 percent between 2008 and 2009. Prior to that, abortions dropped for five straight years.
State law requires any facility that provides abortions to report statistics to the Department of Health Services for an annual report.

SarahB1, great idea, lets stop communicating all morbidity and mortality statistics to the government. Let's stop having the government get into any business at all? Yes, let's stop meddling, no reporting to the government at all, no monies going in, no monies going out...
.
Abortion clinics are regulated medical facilities, the are regulated.
.
hermione your comment about drano and knitting needles is pretty archaic, there are two free clinics in rock county that hand out the morning after pill, no questions asked, no physical, no insurance, no payment. As long as there are people acting irresponsible there will be people trying to cash in on their irresponsibility.

I agree with you reality_bites except for
your thinking that abortion promotes women.
Not so -- if there is a choice of sex when abortion is an option
far more males get chosen in this world and straight white males at that.
Also men often pressure women into aborting their child. It is not so easy.
If males the protected women abortion would not be necessary.

Abortion is but a stop on a long road of wrongs. I find it hypocritical how so many people hate abortion, but encourage women and girls to act and dressing like harlots and pressure them to "put out." All you have to do is turn on MTV or turn on the radio and there is our popular culture screaming sex and treating women as sexed objects. Then there are the thongs on sale for elementary aged girls, the Brittneys and the Ke$has the friendly neighborhood Hooters. When a girl gets caught with her hand in the proverbial cookie jar we conveniently ignore what got her there and use her as the scapegoat for a whole slew of social evils against women and girls. Abortion is wrong, but it's one peg on a rotten board. If you are so anti-abortion start being a little more pro-woman.

Is it better to abort or adopt an unwanted baby ? Steve Jobs was an unwanted baby.

There are a lot of people looking to adopt.
Why not do that?
If abortion remains legal in some generation following only families left will be those who are not for abortions?
Or there will only be males left?
Look at China and India??
I know that is a far out thought.

If abortion becomes illegal or restricted in WI or the US, all that means is that poor people won't be able to get abortions unless it is in an alley or by using knitting needles or Draino. People with money will always have options. It will be 1960 all over again.

My opinion: abortion is often used as a form of birth control. If that's the case, go full term, suffer the consequences. Put the baby up for adoption. But abortion is not something that should be illegal. Sorry if my view disturbs the radicals.

This looks like a return to the pre-recession national trend.
