MADISON—University of Wisconsin System officials should give more power to their 26 campuses and chancellors to help save money.
That’s according to a new report by a committee that System President Kevin Reilly convened to evaluate the system’s role. Officials have to reduce their operating budget by $2.4 million a year and eliminate 51 full-time positions under Gov. Scott Walker’s two-year state budget.

The committee included campus representatives and members of the UW Board of Regents.
Reilly said he agrees that more authority should be delegated across individual campuses. He plans to present a report to the regents at a Thursday meeting.

Regent President Michael Spector tells the Wisconsin State Journal the regents do not want to forego any oversight responsibilities.

No, the Regents don't want to give up any power. The responsibilities are peripheral.
