Wis. appeals court won’t lift block on voter ID

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A state appeals court has refused to lift an injunction blocking Wisconsin’s voter identification law.

The League of Women Voters filed a lawsuit in October challenging the law’s constitutionality. Dane County Circuit Judge Richard Niess issued a permanent injunction blocking the law last month.

State attorneys have asked the 4th District Court of Appeals to reverse the decision and wanted the court to stay the injunction while it ponders the case. The state argued lifting the injunction would provide certainty for people wondering if they’ll need identification to vote in this spring’s recall elections.

The court denied the request Thursday. The three-judge panel says the state failed to show any harm would come from preserving the injunction since its final ruling won’t come until after the recalls.

midnight-ride,
Do you even read the articles that you post links to? Maybe you should try reading the actual study that the article is referencing. Let me help you out:
http://www.people-press.org/2012/04/26/g...
That is a study about the favorability of the entire federal government. It's not just about the President and his cabinet which is what you refer to when you use the term "Obama adiministration". The term federal government includes the executive branch, but it also refers to the bumbling Senate (I'm looking at you Harry Reid), the Republican majority House led by John (of Orange) Boehner, and the Citizens United themselves: the SCOTUS.
Also, there was quite a bombshell in that Pew study. You'll never believe it. They discovered that Republicans are more favorable towards state government in states where Republicans control the state government. WOW! Now there's a shocker.

phantom, it's not right for them to take a case that hasn't yet been ruled on by a lower court. And justice does move slowly; the judge gave both sides 2 months to prepare briefs on the matter (which isn't really very much time). It's NOT like on TV where they are in a hearing one day and they're in trial tomorrow.
.
This is a big issue which will have implications for generations; it's not an emergency and it deserves the right amount of attention to get it right. The Legisalture (and even ALEC) can write laws, the gov or pres can sign them, but it's the job of the courts to uphold and make sure those laws actually pass constitutional muster. This will probably end in in some appeals court and possible SCOTUS so it's important that it follow procedure.

Left leaning politico. Surprised to see this as their news. Obama's administration lowest approval of Federal Government. 15 year low in appoval but the telling sign he is in trouble is 51% of Democrats favor him. ONLY 51% of his own party. Romney leads Obama with independents by 15%!!

62% favor their local government. (Thank you Governor Walker, leading in local polls, along with double digit leads for the four Republican Senators)

So basically a three judge panel of jurists that want Walker recalled has said no one need show an ID. We won't rule anyway until we get rid of Walker by any fraud necessary. Then we will rule that it is wrong to prevent voter fraud and use the recall as our justification. Wow shat a bunch of arrogant losers we have on the bench in Wisconsin.

It appears I've hit a nerve with mouse. When George Soros is involved, the drummed up hate for Paul Ryan fails to be a valid news story. Mouse, you may post all the Koch propaganda but look to Soros also. You look ridiculous calling out one and hiding behind the wallet of another.

wi55lady, what if a twin gets the other twin's ID and uses it to vote and nullifies the the first twin's vote? How about triplets? Don't you think we better strengthen that new voter ID bill? How about fingerprints or DNA? I hope such fears don't keep you up at night. I think nearly everyone knows the real purpose behind this legislation, but some want to disguise it. It appears you are among the latter.

wi55lady, and that has happened to you how many times? I believe it was Garth Algar who once said, "And monkeys might fly out of my butt." You could have just typed that.

I don't like the fact that a woman can go to vote and claim to be me because we don't have to show an ID to prove who we are. What would happen if a female neighbor of mine voted under my name?? And then I go to vote and they tell me it shows I've already voted. Then what? What happens to MY vote? What recourse do I have? ABSOLUTELY NONE!!! That's why we MUST have voter ID.

"The three-judge panel says the state failed to show any harm would come from preserving the injunction since its final ruling won’t come until after the recalls."

That is a very, very significant statement on the part of the court. They are, in effect, saying that the current voter fraud statutes are protecting citizens from voter fraud and no harm will come from leaving them in place. Great news!

The Hollywood studio run by one of President Obama’s biggest donors is under investigation by the Securities Exchange Commission for bribing Chinese officials to secure exclusive film rights in the communist country—rights secured in secretive negotiations that included Vice President Joe Biden.

The SEC is investigating at least five Hollywood studios—including 20th Century Fox, Disney, and DreamWorks Animation—for allegedly making illegal payments to Chinese officials, Reuters reported Tuesday.
