Ryan soaks up home-state pride as new Romney mate

WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) — Newly chosen vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan got a little emotional at a homecoming event in his home state of Wisconsin.

The congressman took the stage Sunday evening in Waukesha, looked out over a fairgrounds crowd of thousands and wiped away tears.

Ryan was named Saturday as Republican Mitt Romney’s running mate. The rally was a brief stop home before Ryan embarks on his first solo swing to battleground states like Iowa and Colorado.

Ryan told the home-state crowd that his “veins run with cheese, bratwurst” and local beers.

Romney relished in the showing, too, saying it proves he made the right pick.

Wisconsin has been a hard state for Republicans to crack. No presidential nominee has won its electoral votes since 1984, although some have come excruciatingly close.

Locals beers ? ? I thought Ryan only drank those expensive wines ! ! I hope people will check Ryan's voting record. Especially women. He voted against equal pay. Also says there is no global warming. The proof ? Snow !

Jessie, it was your claim, yet you still have not provided any proof. Typical retort of dems, just like harry reid, make a claim and want others to disprove it while never backing the original claim with any facts.

Leftest lies, "Rommney made all his money breaking up buisness in the USA and shipping jobs overseas"

Not only did you spell his name wrong you are way short on facts. I suspect the places that have given you these views has also not supplied you any facts either. Too bad you can't think for yourself.

Great crowd at the rally, even better after the one protester got tossed. Wouldn't you think they would know better at an event with dozens of Secret Service)? A "crowd" of about 14 protesters outside the area.
