Aug. 31 deadline for Wis. do not call list
MADISON — Aug. 31 is the latest deadline to get phone numbers added to Wisconsin’s do-not call list.
Residential land lines, cellular phone numbers and voice over Internet protocol services can be added to the list.
Numbers added to the list by the Aug. 31 deadline would be added to the no-call list by Oct. 1.
All registrations are good for two years but numbers be re-registered at any time.
Numbers can be added at nocall.wisconsin.gov or by calling 1-866-966-2255.
The list is updated four times per calendar year. Anyone who misses the Aug. 31 deadline can’t have their number added until January.

The no call list doesn't do any good when the government doesn't have to abide by it. The surveys, political recordings and volunteer call centers are the most obnoxious. I have an app that blocks unwanted calls and texts instead and enters the information into a database so you can look up who it is or leave a comment for others getting the same calls. It's nice for when you get those robodialers that call every five minutes and never leave a message. I just set it to pick up and hang up once I have a number on my blacklist.

What we need is a password-protected phone system. "You have reached 555-1212. Please enter the correct security code to complete your call."
The phone company could make big bucks offering a standard service (one password for every incoming number), deluxe service (program different specific codes for up to 10 specific phone numbers in addition to your basic code, or those phone numbers bypass having to enter a code at all) and business service (program different specific codes for up to 100 numbers in addition to your basic code, etc.). The kid's cell phones could ring through without a security code and you could let your mother-in-law call, if she enters the 20 character security code.
The 911 center and specific police numbers could bypass the code. Everyone else gets a "I'm sorry, you didn't enter the correct code. Please call back and try again if you think you entered the code incorrectly."
Dear Santa, I'd like the above, and a la carte cable/satellite tv channel service for Christmas.

DO NOT CALL is nice, but I'd rather see a DO NOT MAIL. It would greadtly cut back on paper used, ink, gas, and mail people to deliver it. Let's face it folks, service jobs do nothing to enrich or enhance the culture of this country.

Or the UW taking surveys! They called us seven times in a week and each time they were told not to call. Finally they admitted they never removed our number in case we changed our minds about taking their surveys. When I threatened to call the police the calls stopped.

no point in this if you cannot get the people wanting money, Rachael from card member services, or Gov to stop calling you.
