Workers protest pizza maker
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Union members and others protested a Milwaukee area Costco and called for a boycott of a pizza maker.
Protesters accuse Milwaukee-based Palermo’s Pizza of unfair labor practices and want Costco to pull the pizzas from its shelves.
WTMJ-TV reported that dozens protested in front of the Grafton Costco on Saturday. The immigrant rights group, Voces de la Frontera organized the protest.
Workers, many of whom are Hispanic, have been on strike since June 1. They say. the company has tried to stop them from forming a union. Palermo’s management denies that.
Palermo’s says Chief Executive Officer Giacomo Fallucca and AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka are trying to set a meeting.
Union members were expected to hold protests at 25 Costco stores around the country.

HEY EVERYONE THIS IS NOT ABOUT THE TASTE OF PALERMO'S PIZZA...IT'S ABOUT 75 ILLEAGALS BEING FIRED AND THEN TRYING TO FORCE THE COMPANY TO HIRE THEM BACK SO THAT THEY CAN VOTE ON THE UNION...GET WITH IT...DAH

"Protesters accuse Milwaukee-based Palermo’s Pizza of unfair labor practices..."
Unions are the epitome of unfair labor practices. In a union, if you work hard you, have better skills,..etc, you get paid the same as someone with lesser skills and doesn't work very hard.

GoodAmerican, if the union label ever goes on a Palermo's Pizza, will it then be fit for your dinner plate? Or will the condemnations of the quality of Palermo's "frozen garbage" by unionistas such as yourself permanently prohibit its purchase by you and them, whether if it bears the union label or not? If so, wouldn't you say that jobs will be permanently lost and that Voces de la Frontera figuratively urged Palermo's workers to cut off their noses, and that they did with your help?

So, we're supposed to worship unions for what they once were and ignore what they now really are. Yeah, right.
Didn't anyone notice that Voces de la Frontera is not a labor union?
It does seem odd that a group of embittered employees would work for the detriment of the company they work for. Don't they see that by inspiring union supporters all over the state to say such demeaning things about the quality of that company's product, such as some of the comments below, they permanently reduce their own customer base? Talk about cutting off your own nose to spite you face! But then unionistas are great little nose hacker-offers, aren't they?

LAR80: I understand what you are saying, but the businesses have gotten out of control, also. Decreasing numbers in employees and expecting the ones left to do twice the work for the same pay. No wonder there is so much depression, anxiety, and stress in the workplace today. You cannot go too far left or too far right. There NEEDS to be a balance.

Exactly... "The unions are out of control"
.
Hate the conservatives for pointing this out and trying to control them>?
.
Hate the unions for not controling themselves?
.
There is some awakening to reality in unionisim in Ohio and Michigan.. Even Case NewHolland in Wisconsin has a profitable union position that maximizes cross utilization and pays skills reasonably and unskilled lower but reasonably....... More of this is needed.

No one will realize what the Unions did for us until it hits home. Granted Unions have gotten out of control. Bring back the way Unions used to be and then maybe everyone will be happy. We do need the protection from unfair or unhealthy practices that may happen or is happening in the workplace, but I also do not believe in protecting the lazy people who are purposely abusing the system.

Carlito,
When unions accept the fact tha unskilled labor needs to be paid a reasonalble but lower wage than skilled labor they will have my attention.
.
When the big unions (IAM & UAW) begin to re-establish the traditional apprenticeships that they jettisoned in the 1980s in exchange for "B" scales.. They will have my attention.
.
When Democrats realize that killing children is not an issue of "womens healthcare" they will have my attention.
.
As far as Illegals go.... No party has presented an elegant solution. It is far too difficult for ANYBODY to become a U.S. citizen when they follow the path currently in place. I know so many people who have LEFT THE COUNTRY because they married a foreigner and could not get citizenship for their spouse, so the became ExPats... Sad.
.
Pizza? Unions? There is a legal way to form a union... The unions are not doing it. The real motivation for the union has been brought forth below.

Ignorance is bliss today. You that comment and degrade UNIONS IF you have a job, and could comprehend anything (which is highly unlikely by the uneducated posts you put in the gazette) THE UNIONS MADE ALL WORK PLACES SAFER, EQUAL,40 HOUR WORK WEEK, DECENT WAGES. VACTION DAYS, PAID HOLIDAYS, AND MUCH MORE... FOR THOSE THAT HAVE UNIONS AND FOR THOSE THAT DO NOT HAVE UNIONS SURE REAP THE REWARDS OF WHAT THE UNIONS HAVE DONE, IF YOU HAD YOUR PAY CUT AND NO BENEFITS YOU WOULD BE THERE TO FIGHTING TO GET FAIR TREATMENT AND WAGES., It is not just about the illegal worker (hate comment at the least) You all blame the people WELL blame the right ones, The big money people that own these companies HIRE their employees and use some races to pay cheaper wages and no health benefits, knowing the workers have to agree as they will get rid of them and hire more *as some put it illegals* THAT IS WHERE UNIONS WORK FOR THE PEOPLE.. I do not understand the ones who stand against the very bases of their good pay, their paid vacations AND EVERYTHING ELSE THE UNION HAS GIVEN TO EVEN NON UNION COMPANIES,yet you agree with the two most hateful candidates for OUR COUNTRY, They want to take away WOMEN"S RIGHTS, ELDERLY AND SENIORS LIFELINE, QUALITY EDUCATION FOR OUR CHILDREN, THEIR INTENT IS TO DESTROY ANYONE AND EVERYONE WITHOUT A CERTAIN INCOME LEVEL AND YOU HAVE YOUR HEADS SO DEEP WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE AND CANNOT SEE THE TRUTH IF IT TOOK A LOVED ONES LIFE..... UNIONS ARE THE BACK BONE OF THIS COUNTRY AND TO THE PEOPLE WHO REALLY KNOW THE TRUTH WILL AND ALWAYS BE THERE... WE WILL STAND TOGETHER AND FIGHT FOR WHAT IS RIGHT . WE WILL NOT BE DICTATED NOR WILL WE BE BULLIED BY THE GOP AND AND THEIR HATEFUL BS THEY ARE TRYING TO FORCE ON THE PEOPLE.... I DO NOT SUPPORT THE GOP NOR DO I SUPPORT OUR COUNTRY BEING SOLD TO THE HIGH BIDDER BY THE GOP.... OBAMA/BIDEN 2012 THE ONES WHO DO CARE.....

Simple story....Palermo fired 75 workers who couldn't prove their citizenship. If Palermo kept the 75 fed govt would bust them. Union wanted the 75 hired back again so the union could have a union vote. Palermo won't hire them back.

Another crap article that has left gaping holes regarding the issue. Anyone who reads this should go find additional sources that actually explain the full story.
I could offer you all links. But I don't want to be annoyed with complaints about whatever site I choose. So go find them yourselves.
Whichever side you feel you should take this article comes up way short.
On another note, I purchased my first two Palermo's Pizzas ever over a month ago....when this story should have been covered. I probably won't ever by another, they certainly aren't the cheapest pizza out there, and do not have impressive taste. However, I hope the business survives and can continue to provide legal citizens jobs.
