PLYMOUTH, Wis. (AP) — Eighty Wisconsin National Guard soldiers are ready to ship out for a nine-month mission in Afghanistan.

A WLUK-TV report says dozens of well-wishers gathered in Sheboygan County on Saturday to give the soldiers a rousing send-off.

The soldiers are with the Bravo Battery, 1st Battalion, 121st Field Artillery based in Plymouth. They leave Monday for about six weeks of training at Fort Bliss, Texas, before heading overseas.

Sgt. Ernaldo Guerrero says he’s ready to do what he’s been trained for.

While he and other soldiers said they’re excited, family members say they’re already anxious for their loved ones’ return.

Amanda Medina gave birth three months ago, and said her husband is about to leave for his third deployment. She says she’ll try to handle things day by day.

...Its called the "war machine"...It is the manufacturing and all the support for the war, it employs thousands. It must always run...if there is no war we'll invent one. So sad the way we are.

Phynque - No, the answer is: If we stop it we will lose how many jobs here in the states? All the manufacturing jobs that support the way, all the funding for the war, and what are all of the soldiers going to do if there was no war? The unemployment rate would skyrocket and America would be in shambles... So in order to build a fake reality...we are ALWAYS at war.

We are in Afghanistan for the usual reasons: power, money, ego.

Far-call'd our navies melt away—
On dune and headland sinks the fire—
Lo, all our pomp of yesterday
Is one with Nineveh and Tyre!

I wish you good luck and a safe return.

How about we keep our negative comments to ourselves for once. These folks that are getting deployed are mothers/fathers/sons/daughters that are going into harms way to protect our freedoms to complain on a low rate news paper website. If you can't at least recognize that freedom isn't free, then you never will!

cynicaleye, Hardtobelieve, Sigma40... It's because, Folks... If we don't stop it over there, then we'll have to stop it over here.

Perhaps you'd like to fight these people on USA soil?

Because we wanted to find out why people don't keep up on current events.

Why did we EVER go there in the first place is the real question.
