Police cracking down on drunken driving
MADISON—Police across Wisconsin will be putting extra emphasis on tracking down drunken drivers this holiday season under the “Booze and Belts” campaign.
The initiative runs from Friday through Dec. 16. It focuses both on impaired drivers and those not wearing seat belts.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says last December, 51 people died and there were 11,000 traffic crashes across the state. More than 3,500 people were injured.

I'm not against the police campaign but we won't get a long term solution to the problem until we increase the penalties for impaired driving.

Its pretty obvious if you are on your 6th OWI and still out there drinking you seriously do not want any help or have learned anything from your previous consequences time for stiffer penalties and monitoring, a little drying out time in the prison system would definitely wake most people up, Too much time going through the court system for people who were arrested almost a year ago .

Something needs to be done. Too many "6th DUI arrest" type articles. To me when I read those kinds of articles it means law enforcement and the judicial system are guilty of crimes as well. that of failing to protect citizens from drunk drivers.
