Kohl delivers farewell speech to Senate colleagues
MILWAUKEE—Wisconsin Sen. Herb Kohl has given his final speech from the floor of the U.S. Senate.
The retiring Democrat delivered brief farewell remarks Thursday morning. He remembered some of his late colleagues with whom he served in his 24 years as a senator, and he thanked his current colleagues for their service.
Kohl took office in 1989 for his first of four terms. The 77-year-old is stepping down after his current term is up Jan. 2.
He spoke for about three minutes. He acknowledged that he hasn’t always agreed with his colleagues but he said every senator is acting on the genuine belief that their actions are best for their states and the nation.
Kohl will be replaced in three weeks by fellow Democrat Tammy Baldwin.

Hardtobelieve...I don't think anyone expected Obama to make a difference in 9 months but four years....yeah!

Hardtobelieve, I would support term limits, these positions were never meant to be careers, it might give these clowns some real perspective on things as well. Your partisan views aside you are right on that however since the overall parties are still pulling the strings (and working together to hold that power btw) I doubt term limits would really do much, there is very little difference between individual dems or individual republicans, sure you get the occasional one that isn't afraid to buck the party but then they get blasted by the base or pundits so they can't win. True Independants cannot come from either party, and since there seems to be no end to the stanglehold of either party, these issues are not going away or are the 'loopholes' and legal ways that the 'rich' get to skirt taxes, they have friends on both sides since both parties are loaded with the 1% everyone seems to hate so much.

Eagle1: The only answer is term limits for our Senators and Congressmen and women. We only allow our President 8 years, why not Congressman and Senators. And donnaw, you said Johnson was only there for two years, BUT you expected Obama to change the country in 9 MONTHS!!!! Can't have it both ways. Kohl always responded to me when I wrote him, as did Baldwin and Feingold. Paul Ryan NEVER responded to my letters. How come?

janesvillean you have a valid case about us paying more and the 'rich' paying less however you continue to vote for people that support the system that allows this, doesn't make much sense does it? Get to the root of it and things will change, if people keep doing the shallow behavior of pointing partisan fingers nothing will EVER change.

"Yep 7 of the top 10 richest in congress are dems Kohl being on of them..." The point is does Sen. Kohl suggest that the less fortunate are getting what they deserve? That they are all lazy? That they are "takers" rather than the good "makers", that they have turned the safety net that is barely sustaining them into a "hammock"? That their hard work is not as important as the wealthiest’s "hard work"? The point is, do the Republican’s even care about the less fortunate in society? Do the Republican's even care about these people other than in their own twisted way of trying to get their votes by insulting them? Or scaring them into thinking that they will have everything taken away because they now have some access to health care?

Integrity? How about the 17 or so democratic senators who have written a letter to Harry Reid to stop the tax on medical device manufacturers which goes into effect Jan 1? It's part of Obamacare which they voted for but now realize they don't like it. They say this tax will hurt the economy and will result in a loss of jobs. Duh!! And more hypocrisy? And guess who one of the senators is? Our very own Herb Kohl!
And the hypocrisy gets better. The House has already passed a bill to eliminate this tax and it is languishing on Harry's desk. If the Dems really wanted to get it passed they could. Maybe they just want to look good for their lobbyist pals.

Goodamerican...yeah, right, there are no republicans with integrity...nice generalization. And all democrats have integrity, right? What hypocrisy! You have been on the juice too long.

Terrible people, screaming, spitting, calling the troops trying to maintain order, foul names. Then the same crowd started throwing pieces of snow, ice and clam shells at the troops. They refused to disperse when ordered and finally shot at the troops trying to maintain order. What an awful example. THE PATRIOTS IN MASSACHUSETTS 1770's. If England had won they would have been terrible people. Now the are heroes. The history on this hasn't been written yet! There will be other elections, things change.

Freedom of speech is not a crime. Please show me where you believe I have "bullied" you, as it is you who usually goes off on a long UPPERCASE typed rant.
GA
Who do you believe is the face of the democratic party....the union people who went berserk in Michigan? Hostile, spitting on people, destroying property, and teachers skipping school..again.
I have not said a negative comment about HKolb. He is a wealthy man, however, since he is a democrat it is okay. If he were republican, he would be vilified.

Amazing....the only wealthy people with integrity are in the democratic party, (according to democrats).
Do you folks making these claims realize your hypocrisy?

donnaw, we have disgust for wealthy people who want to make sure that the poor stay poor and the middle class get poor. Yeah, pretend it's about envy or something, you just can't conceive of actual class warfare as it is conducted by the likes of Diane Hendricks and John Menard. I'm through paying more taxes so they can pay less.

Actually donnaw, I have disgust for greedy people of all types, wealthy or impoverished, Democrat or Republican. It is just that the Republican Party and their political goals seem to attact the greedy and uncaring. It has been a very long time since I heard a right-wing contributer out here talk with sympathy for the plight of so many people that have lost so much through the policies of the Republican Party over the past 10 years. Instead they talk with disgust about the lazy, stupid, hammock riding impoverished and do not lift a finger to lighten their burden. Instead, they add too it in any way they can. It is that simple.

Badger....Kohl was a senator for over 20 years! Johnson only a couple of years! No comparison. And do you think no wealthy republicans give a lot of money away too! But you lefties have disgust for wealthy people who are not democrats.

donnaw: Name one U.S. senator or H.O.R. member who takes NO salary other than Kohl. Name one senator or H.O.R. member who has given away hundreds of thousands of dollars to Wisconsin students and teachers in the form of scholarships. I doubt you'll ever see Ron Johnson do something like that. By the way, what has Johnson done since he's become our Senator? I can't think of anything either.

yada...you seem to spend a lot of time chasing fairy dust. You really need to move on. You are becoming obsessive with stalking Walker and his so far unappearing criminal charges. Name one thing Kohl did while serving as senator. Don't remember hearing about any impact he made. Yes he is rich because he inherited it off the backs of his dads workers. But liberals only detest rich republicans. If you are liberal being rich is ok.

Wislady It is a crime to try and bully and buy this country and to force their religion and Hate on others, to take from the less fortunate and line their pockets with slave labor and outsourcing JOBS. That is your Republicans in a nutshell. PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE.

I figured you would NOT know him DONNAW because he is a man of integrity. He does not have a Criminal Defense fund like Scotty. Take a look at the connection of Walker to ALL those in the FBI John Doe Investigation - and - it's not over yet.
