Wis. records show 1 in 8 register on voting day
MADISON, Wis. -- State election records show that voters in Wisconsin's Democratic-leaning counties have been more likely to register to vote at the polls, but voters in Republican-leaning areas also made heavy use of the state's same-day registration law.
The Wisconsin State Journal reported that in three recent statewide elections, one in eight ballots came from voters who registered that same day, according to data from the Government Accountability Board.
The data was for the November 2008 and November 2010 elections, and the June 2012 gubernatorial recall election.
According to the numbers, 16 percent of voters in Democratic-leaning counties statewide registered on the day of the presidential election in 2008, when President Barack Obama won Wisconsin. In GOP-leaning areas, the rate of same-day registration was just 2.6 percentage points lower.
Two years later when Republican Scott Walker was elected governor, the same-day registration rate was 5.9 percentage points higher for Democratic-leaning areas.

If you had to register before voting OMG two trips now. You are asking to much. Seems if they registered before they could check up to be all was legal. Seems if same day maybe something fishy could happen.
carleto- how would you check for fraud when you don't even need an ID to prove you are who you say you are. I keep giving this example. Neighbor moved. I could be me and the neighbor. Who would ever know. Just say my address and go in again and say her address and vote twice. Just need to beat the neighbor there. If they don't vote at all even better.
I received some weird form in the mail recently telling me who in my neighbor hood voted. Not by name just by address. WEird info. My house was listed as some people voted at my address a few times since I have lived there. WEird since I have lived there for 10 years. Address E vs W? Did this person live at E .... Vs W .... Whatever wrong info and what does this mean.

That is not reported because it is probably untrue.

carlitosway you might want to ask why this is not more reported. The next thing you should ask is why it took an outside agency, not affiliated with any district attorney or law enforcement to find this instance. Of course you could just to think this was just a one time occurrence and has nothing at all to do with weak voter laws and political activism in this state.

RAF Can you please share any voter fraud you have found or anyone has found. I have read many articles and have not seen any documented *real* voter fraud, a few errors but NO fraud. Do to many being homeless and staying with friends or maybe a shelter, it is possible that is why some mail goes back. Also if you have a PO box this can happen and I did at the time I registered and they wanted a Mailing address which I provided, but had to stress I did not get mail their. As to same day voting It has worked for many many many years. It is actually funny when the republicans LOSE, that this is brought up. I love that Obama is our President.

I think I read about a story in Milwaukee that was a big deal for a while claiming voter fraud in 2004, when the cards couldn't be delivered. Seems the clerks office had actually made mistakes when they copied the addresses, not such a big story.

Funny a key piece of information is not listed or tabulated; phony registrations. Currently the GAB sends out postcards to newly registered voters as a means to verify the address provided is valid. The GAB however does not track the returned cards from the postal system, instead they are all sent to the individual clerks for each voting district. There is no tracking system in place to tabulate faulty address information or to ensure returned cards have fake information removed from voters rolls.
Am I claiming all clerks don't update, NO. But the fact the state does not track this information, for statistical reasons or quality control measures, is problematic.
