Law change needed to access immigration database
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Accessing a federal database to help determine whether illegal immigrants are voting in Wisconsin would require a law change and cost more than $1 million over the next five years.
That is according to a report prepared by staff at the state elections board that is to be discussed at its meeting Tuesday.
The Government Accountability Board report comes in response to a request from Republican state Sen. Mary Lazich that the board look into using the U.S. Department of Homeland Security database to weed out illegal immigrants who might be voting.
The GAB report does not take a position on whether the law ought to be changed to access the database.
Lazich says the report provides good information but would not say whether she intends to pursue the issue.

GoodAm....spending millions on this project is not a good idea. You evidently didn't read what has been posted. The opinion was that the estimate of millions to do this project seemed over the top. I agree with realitybytes it seemingly could be done a lot cheaper. And I am sure there are illegals who voted. You would have to be "silly" not to think they do.

Too bad Republicans can't put in the same time and effort to pass legislation that leads to job creation for ALL Americans and protects the income of ALL workers that they do in passing legislation that tries to protect THEIR jobs.

It is so amazing, when the Repubs lose that they want all these laws to try and *win* They continue with their habitual lying, trying to suppress the vote at any cost., GoodAmerican WELL SAID!! Maybe they need documentation to see if anyone should vote as in a sense WE ARE ALL IMMIGRANTS. But only document in the Democratic areas. Had the Repubs won, these issues would not even be in the News. I wonder how many the Koch boys bused into Waukeesha from other States to save Scooter and other repubs, Just saying. Small communities are better Voting polls as they all are known to their neighbors and guess who won in a majority of the smaller areas.( other then Walkersha small areas and that may have been a mistake in ballots count also) Research and you will find the answer.

reality....I thought the same thing. And if you pro illegals deny that there are no illegals voting you are more naive than I thought. I hope the voter ID gets okayed soon.

Hispanics do have a voice and a vote, but not in America IF they are here ILLEGALLY.
GA
The fact that several states are issuing driver licenses to illegal immigrants, is another chance that votes will be caste illegally. We already have E Verify, what's the big deal with actually using that system with the voting.

Another law will fix it? How? If the federal and state government already don't enforce laws on the books why on earth do people think addding another law will correct a problem...

So the cost to access an EXISTING federal database is "more than $1 million over the next five years". Really? Seems like a current State employee with internet access and the appropriate passwords would be able to log in and check this database for next to nothing...Oh- wait: this is our tax and spend government at work.
And GoodAmerican: asking a very reasonable question about the possiblity of illegals voting is not "paranoid". Democrats, on the other hand, simply say it never happens knowing full well that we are currently NOT LOOKING. It is rather hard to find that which is not sought. Perhaps it is possible that if we audited voters we might actually find that some illegals actually did vote. Nah, let's just keep our blinders on and keep insisting the problem couldn't possibly exist.
