Janesville man sentenced in January domestic homicide
JANESVILLE—Rock County Judge James Daley said he wants Michael R. Paul to be too old to hurt anyone before he gets out of prison.
Daley on Tuesday sentenced Paul to 28 years in prison and 12 years of extended supervision for the January death of Lisa M. Schaefer, 49.
Paul, 37, of 326 S. Parker Drive, Janesville, pleaded guilty in September to a reduced charge of first-degree reckless homicide. He had been charged with first-degree intentional homicide.
Police on Jan. 10 found Schaefer’s body under the stairs of the home she and Paul shared on Janesville’s near east side. Police think Paul killed Schaefer on Jan. 7.
A medical examiner said Schaefer died from a brain hemorrhage that was caused by blunt trauma to her head and neck. She had injuries to both eyes, broken facial bones and broken ribs, according to court documents.
Paul is in custody at the Rock County Jail and will be transferred to Dodge Correctional Institute in Waupun.
