JANESVILLE – City of Janesville plow crews began moving into residential areas around 6 p.m. Thursday.

The hope is to get residential streets clear before the cold sets in and freezes the wet snow, said John Whitcomb, city operations director.

Janesville police will be issuing citations, not warnings, for those who don't get their vehicles off the streets during the city's snow emergency, a police spokesman said Thursday night.

Crews have been working on the major streets since 1 a.m. Thursday, Whitcomb said. Those streets remain slippery despite the city’s best efforts.

Whitcomb expected to have crews working all night.

Great job by snowplows this year...out salting while still raining, roads plowed right away. Excelent job this year!

The plows got my street, and when I was done clearing that out they were nice enough to come by again for a clean up pass.

The plow drivers on my street are on point. It was also nice of the neighbors to finally get their cars off the street so the plows can clear up properly.

Hats off to them. They are on top of this storm and doing a heck of a job.
