Combination snarls traffic
JANESVILLE-Holiday shoppers, two traffic accidents and faulty or obstructed traffic signals combined to create difficult traffic conditions on Janesville’s northeast side Saturday.
“We had an accident at Highway 14 and Milwaukee about 2:45, but most of the problem was just a lot of shoppers,” said Janesville Police Lt. Rick Larson. “There have been no unusual incidents, just a lot of traffic.”
A traffic accident earlier in the afternoon had Milton Avenue inbound from Highway 26 down to one lane near the I-90/39 intersection. Traffic was backed up north of the Kettering Drive intersection.
Traffic westbound on Highway 14 was backed up from Milton Avenue to I-90/39 near Pine Tree Plaza.
The traffic backups converged at the intersection of Highway 14 and Milton Avenue. At one point, motorists reported a problem with traffic signals at the intersection. Police reported no outages, but some traffic signals were still covered with snow from Thursday’s storm.

Shopiere - LOL. I agree. I got mine done early and didn't have any traffic worries. Purchased, wrapped and hidden days ago. No last minute shopping for me!

Another problem was that some roads are still icy, slippery and so bumpy. Holiday Drive, 14 West of 26 and all the Frontage roads off of Milton Avenue come to mind as some of the worse. Why couldn't the city have come out yesterday and put down salt on these slippery areas. They'll probably be out today when they get double time.

Uh, well perhaps you all could do your business on the weeks before this nightmarish busy time. Complex stuff here. Easier to contribute to the problem then complain about it, I guess.

we were out there at that very time..trying to get to Farm & Fleet. What a nightmare! I agree with "Who"... people are going thru on red lights. The biggest problem is we were trying to turn left into Farm & Fleet, and the people coming from the right would go thru on their green, and completely block our lane. They were trying to turn left..only that lane wasnt moving. So we would get our green left turn arrow...and we couldnt move...and then those people continued to go through on red lights. It was a real nightmare today.

The problem is that the new LED lights don't generate enough heat to melt off the snow. Its funny that we might have to pay someone to scrape them off so we can save money by using them.

All of the traffic signals in Janesville that traffic heading south are still covered in snow, someone from the city or county should be out there by now clearing them off. I noticed that every traffic signal on Center Ave. from Racine St. all the way to the Highway 11 bypass are caked with snow. It becomes a problem when you are heading that way and of course can not see the lights, most drivers only slow down or stop when they see red, or at the very least yellow, however this is a case where the lights are unable to be seen. What's it going to take before the city and or county gets out there and cleans them? Maybe when someone gets in an accident and sues the city for it's obvious neglect of taking the steps to keep the roads safe, and that is including clearing snow from traffic lights, and wins a pile of money, someone will say, "Hey maybe we should've done more." Maybe next time they will make sure the job is done completely right.

The biggest problem I saw was people going thru red lights. I guess the old saying yellow means beat the red is for real.

I was out and about at that time, but avoided it all except for the jam in Best Buy's parking lot.
What a mess!
Could have used someone to direct traffic there!
