Frontier Airlines cutting 450 jobs in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Frontier Airlines will cut about 450 Milwaukee area employees as part of a major service reduction in Milwaukee.

Nearly half are flight crew members based at Mitchell International Airport. Those workers will be reassigned to bases outside Milwaukee.

Frontier plans to make the job cuts in April, according to a filing Monday with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

Denver-based Frontier has about 1,000 employees based in Milwaukee.

The Journal Sentinel reports many of the flight crews don’t live in the Milwaukee area. Other employees live in southeastern Wisconsin, including maintenance workers, gate agents and baggage handlers.

The news comes just four days after Frontier announced it will eliminate five nonstop routes from Milwaukee. Those cuts will reduce daily departures out of Mitchell International from 32 to 18.

Haha, yeah right. Geez, that sounds an awful lot like smoke and mirrors. Doesn't it?

We'd all hear how great Walker is and how Wisconsin IS open for business right? Well guess what, you're wrong so continue to be FED UP, but maybe be Fed Up for the RIGHT reasons!

Could it be because they recently merged with Midwest Airlines and no longer need both airlines running out of the same airport? Hmmmmmm! It's no different then having two McDonald's restaurants sitting side by side. It's a business decision, not them going under. Does anyone on here use or even have any common sense? Wow, the tunnel vision just continues in this state!

mining conversation on the other site - but since you asked. This is already going on in Minnesota with reports of NO change to the environment. It's water and magnets to extract the minerals. Read into it.
Gosh, where would this country be if the wacko leftist had there way? No airplane travel for sure.

Hmmm. So Gogebic Taconite promises thousands of jobs in exchange for the potential to destroy a beautiful and productive tourist area in WI. And we should believe them and the state government should do everything possible to make this mine go through because they are saying they will provide jobs.

mouse, is it like the math the liberals use to say there is only 8.5% unemployment when the amount of people on welfare doubled?

So if ailines create jobs here... Walker will say he landed them, and add them to his list.... if the company, (in this case an airline leaves) we don't put that in the loss column?
Interest6ing analogy..... must be Republican math 101.

Republic can make more money by selling the Hub locations than keeping the airline. Strictly a business decision. When have the airlines made any money anyway?

Why are you not blaming Republic air? They promised Midwest and Fontier they would keep the hubs strong in Milwaukee. It's a nation problem, not a Wisconsin problem. Well, it does effect Milwaukee unfortunately. As a nation problem, the leader of the nation might be a better choice for job losses.

Kudos to Gov. Walker for helping Frontier
keep the remaining 550 jobs here. When they bought out Midwest I thought we might lose all the jobs.

fear and rhetoric from your dirty union money and dirty political play. Virtue does need to be defended as the attacks are gross. You talk as if you come from the middle but you always give yourself away as left of left. Nice try!
your post comment name is clearly directed 4dummies of the left that believe anything.

Well if they had a direct flight back from Vegas that wasn't a red-eye only during the week, I wouldn't have to fly back on a different airline.
With that said, Midwest Express had the main Corporation based out of Milwaukee. Frontier took over and they are out of Denver. Like any business takeover when you go from being the main to a branch, or hub in this case, you downsize.

This is in response to Southwest Airlines taking over. I liked Southwest when they were an economic alternative when I had to go to Midway to pick up their flights. But they no longer are economically such a great deal - I would rather have the better service that Frontier provided!

Remember: Obama was against the super pact before he was for it. Just like the 2008 election money. Seems he's having trouble raising that 1 billion.

joker_ I am completely AWARE of super pacs and how each and every politician accepts dirty money. Why is it that two wrongs always seem to make a right?
Again, IF what Scott Walker and the Republicans in the legislature were so very virtuous in what they are doing , money flowing in from nationwide unions wouldn't/ shouldn't matter. Does virtue need financing? Speaking of facts, are you trying to tell me that the Governor deals completely in facts? Or would you say that he lives in the same rhetorical world(no "a" in rhetoric, FYI) that you claim that I live in? Or would you say that quite possibly that the entire landscape is rhetorical and completely money driven?
I for one dont believe a word any of them say. When I see a governor willing to slash 1.6 billion from the public education budget to push forth his rhetoric, it becomes a little less about posturing and a whole lot more about my kids future, and the future of public education, for me. I could care less about outside money from either side, hell I wish my kids teachers didn't need a union. Unfortunately , Scott Walker and his idiot patrol are poster children for why unions are needed for some professions(not all) in the public sector. To protect them from ideological attacks, based on little if any reality. Turning public education into , private education would be disasterous for this country, IMO, and that I believe is a goal of these people. If you can find an effective way(both cost and methods) to evaluate teachers and get the crappy ones out, I would be excited to hear it. Unfortunately Educating kids and dealing with all of the social issues in a classroom are very hard to measure. I have no doubt that there are some teachers who are not doing the best, but I also feel that as a profession they are far more virtuous as a whole than any politician could ever hope to be.

they must be holding back to see what happens in the recall. Open for business, right?
Lets be clear here, these jobs are not going away because of anything Walker did or didnt do. Taht being said the way Scott shows up everywhere there is an announcement of potential jobs in 5 years, he should be releasing a presser or something to talk about jobs lost too. If not, then stop acting like every time a Stoughton Trailers adds 125 jobs its all because of his ideologically driven reforms.
you dont want to be held accountable for jobs lost, then stop taking credit for jobs gained. Stop touring the country raising funds on an extended vacation, and doi the job you were elected to do. Makes me wonder of the real motivation of any of the reforms that he touts as "working". Time to be Governor not a fundraiser. If you are so confident that your policies are accepted then why the need for all of the outside money? Trash outside union money, and thats most of what you will be using? Huh?
