Wis. DOJ won't meet carry deadlines
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Justice Department officials say they're so swamped with concealed carry applications they likely won't be able to meet their deadlines for issuing permits this month.
A new state law allowing concealed weapons went into effect on Nov. 1. The measure gives the Justice Department 45 days to process permit applications received through Nov. 30. Any applications received after that date must be processed within 21 days.
The department's Law Enforcement Services Division Administrator Brian O'Keefe says the agency is so overwhelmed with applications it likely will need a day or two longer to process applications from now through mid-January. The agency has received nearly 65,000 applications so far and has spent nearly $30,000 on overtime for processing.

helge1939, "walker & his GOONS only passed this ccw for votes". Sort of like Doyle and his crooked cronies blocked the CCW law for votes?
If the CCW law bothers you, I suggest you follow your favorite Senator the next time he/she/it makes a run for the border.

If the law says they must be processed in 21 days, what happens if they are not. apparently the "time limit" was a little short. They will get caught up, as demand declines.

bassman : that $50.00 you sent in is non refundable. (Fees and Payment: An approved concealed weapon license is valid for
a five-year period. The fee is $50 and is non-refundable.) So i believe you will need another $50.00 after all the info is filled in correctly .

I need to go to the post office and get mine sent in. I won't be carrying, but I think it will be a better stool saver than the "gone to pee" tee pees!

Wisconsin does not need concealed weapons at all. This is a mighty safe place compared to other places I've lived. I fear for people using these negligently, I really do and especially if someone has been drinking!!

414...the guy that did that was from Indiana, not a CC permit holder from Wis.
He cut off a semi and then pointed the gun back at the semi because he thought it was tailgaiting him.
There will always be stupid people who do stupid things.
The CC permit process involves a pretty thorough check of the applicants...but may not be able to detect "stupid".

65,000 is barely 2% of the population. Now we can have more CC people pulling out thief guns when the get mad on the highways. You did hear about the guy who whipped out his pistol on the freeway because he was upset with traffic?

Thank you Janesvillecomments! This reality is heard much anymore. Also, look at how many people are doing this CCW. It must be what the people want...Our oppressive state government of the previous term would never allow these freedoms-thank you Gov. Walker.

$30,000 in overtime? Big deal at $50 a pop for permits and 65,000 application that is a $3,250,000 income for issuing a plastic card. Quite a good profit margin I bet. Just another tax called a permit. Just like hunting or fishing permit.

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen underestimated the time it would take to process the initial rush of applications. That was his job, not Walker's, and he had plenty of time to prepare and contact other states for information about their experiences.
Thank you, Governor Walker, for signing the concealed carry bill into law. For that, and for introducing economic reality to public employee unions, you have my vote for a second term.

Way to go Governor Walker. Creating overtime pay while at the same time you give the shaft to public employees. Good job! RECALL WALKER!
