Walker setting up new education council
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker is creating a new council to help better prepare students for college and careers.
Walker’s announcement Monday that he was creating the council comes after he cut $71 million in funding from technical colleges last year as a budget-savings move.
That cut and a $250 million reduction to the University of Wisconsin System were roundly criticized by Democrats and others as harmful to worker training efforts.
Walker says the new council will consist of representatives from small business, the workforce, state school Superintendent Tony Evers, cabinet secretaries and top officials from public and private universities and technical colleges.
Walker also voiced his support for legislative proposals designed to connect job seekers with employers.

poo that all you got? If you are so worried about association and those who take money look up the names Corzine (Dem gov and senator) and MF Global Holdings Ltd.
"Former New Jersey governor and U.S. Sen. Jon Corzine, whom President Obama once hailed as an “honorable man” and one of his “best partners” in the White House, has been subpoenaed to testify before Congress about his role in the collapse of the investment firm MF Global.
Corzine was chairman and CEO of the company between March 2010 and Oct. 31, 2011, when it filed for bankruptcy. An estimated $1.2 billion has not been accounted for, leaving many investor accounts drained. The FBI and Justice Department are also investigating the case.
The unanimous, bipartisan vote today to require Corzine to appear before the House Agriculture Committee next week sets the stage for tough questioning of one of the president’s top re-election campaign fundraisers and a man who had, until recently, been considered a top pick for Treasury Secretary in a possible second Obama term.
Corzine hosted a private fundraiser for Obama at his Manhattan home in April and has given the maximum individual contribution — $35,800 — to Obama and Democrats for 2012, according to Federal Election Commission records. He and his family have donated more than $933,000 to Democratic candidates and groups since 1990, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.
The former CEO of Goldman Sachs has also bundled more than $500,000 in contributions for Obama 2012 from his deep-pocket friends and associates, many of whom have ties to Wall Street."

Good thing walkers admin asked for an investigation. But in your tiny thought process you think he is connected so you must also think all dems are connected to corzines great actions as well.

Funny how all of you liberals that keep bringing up the john doe investigations fail to mention that it was Walker and his chief of staff who brought this to the attention of the DA!
"Walker, in an eight-minute conference call Thursday with reporters, said he was "very disappointed" about the alleged theft but emphasized that his office had been responsible for raising initial concerns about bookkeeping at Operation Freedom, an annual military appreciation day held at the Milwaukee County Zoo. Tom Nardelli, his chief of staff at the time, had contacted prosecutors about discrepancies in Operation Freedom's past records under Kavanaugh".

Interesting how a uneducated governor that quit college (ALSO - you may want to research reasons why Walker quit college, his grades in college, and while your at it the problems he caused while running for student president at Marquette and actions taken against him.)knows what is needed in education. Walker does not have a clue on education or anything else. His inner circle and appointees are now making front page news themselves - with arrests for missing money from VETERANS - Hear that RAF.....or do you have your blinders on again. We may not need a Recall as the John Doe probe gets closer and closer. Final point - Chisholm has stated that the John Doe probe is far from over.

MooShoo-You didn't get MY point which was we need to teach the needed courses in the technical schools to get a good job. Not the ones most people will never use. I think most reasonable people would agree that a lot of these courses are just never gonna be used in the real world. I have a cousin who is Professor in Alabama who teaches poetry. I ask her what good in the real world is that and her answer is people like it. If they like it go to a library. And one more thing nowhere in these comments do I see you made any point at all except to recall Walker. Did you dream it up?

Education funding in this country is the farthest thing from small, as some want you to believe. Interestingly the same people that like to compare our nation to others in things like military spending and healthcare spending take the complete opposite view, or completely ignore it, when it comes to education spending. Our country spends the most per student than other countries yet we fall far short of educating in this comparison. There are many reasons for this from home life to various schools. The obvious point is money hasn’t propelled our nation’s youth to the lead in world education so sooner or later in order to improve the product, students, changes to the current scheme must take place. I wonder why those that claim the most they want more for the kids are always against any changes to the system. So far those in charge haven’t been able to fix it and the entrenched system hasn’t corrected their own problems. I don’t have a problem with others looking for solutions as long as changes are made with progress as the goal and not just changes made for the sake of making changes; justifying a council.

It's just a trick to push for more charter schools. The scores at public schools will conveniently have lower scores than the charter schools, making the argument that charter schools are better and deserve public funding. Teachers with poorly scoring students will be penalized (fired) even though their class sizes have increased thanks to Walker's budget "tools". So this will be another "tool" to get rid of teachers and close public schools. Walker and the anti-public education squad are just laying the groundwork. It doesn't take a PoliSci degree to see it.

The technical colleges should be teaching the trades that are needed to have successful career. When I went to Gateway (it was Kenosha Tech then) we had the drafting class and math class but we had social studies and phycology.
I just needed to learn to be a draftsman. So a nine month course could have been done in 4 months. Also if I wanted to get an Associate Degree I would have to take more of these unneeded courses. I had enough education to get a job which is what I wanted. What this long winded rant is trying say is these colleges don't need a lot of these courses or at least back off on them and those schools would be more affordable

vatoloco, that study is from the metro area of just one city. I can give you a much better example of institutional racism than that one. Look at the population demographics of our prisons nationwide. However, back to your Washington Post and NEPC article you cited. The Washington Post is a left-leaning newspaper. Not as liberal as it used to be, but still much more liberal than its conservative counterpart - The Washington Times. This is consistent with what I told you, that the left is not afraid to acknowledge and expose racism and that racism occurs everywhere and without regard to party. You're preaching to the choir.

As a dropout himself Scott Walker doesn't value education because he didn't utilize it to make himself what he is today. His "learning" is from the political and business world, and he knows you don't need an education to lead in those industries, so why bother funding education. Instead, divert those funds to the politicians and economic elitists and have them talk down to those of lessor status.
