Poll shows Walker on top

By ASSOCIATED PRESS   Wednesday, January 25, 2012 - 10:17 a.m.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — A new poll shows slightly more Wisconsin voters approve than disapprove of the job Republican Gov. Scott Walker is doing as he prepares for an expected recall election.

The Marquette University Law School poll released Tuesday shows 51 percent of 701 registered voters polled approve of Walker’s performance while 46 percent disapprove. The poll has a 3.8 percentage-point margin of error.

The telephone poll was conducted Jan. 19-22. That’s just days after recall organizers turned in a million signatures to force a recall election against Walker.

The recall effort has been driven by Democrats and other groups angry over Walker’s conservative agenda during his first year in office, particularly his successful push for a law that effectively ended collective bargaining rights for most public workers.

Again No2, when presented with the actual information, like in this case limitied number of citizens is the norm for this speech every year you ignore it. The fact is you typically echo talking points without looking at real information. Here is a small sampling of your gems on this "issue" that is not new but the talking point you try to echo is this is something only walker and the current rep party does. PATHETIC.

-"The seating was by invitation only and Walker's allies in the House and Senate controlled the invitations"

-"Why was seating in the gallery of the capitol for Walker's Rhetoric of the State speech on an invitation only basis except for twelve seats designated for the general public?"

-"not many sheeple were allowed in the capitol tonight for Walker's Rhetoric of the State. The gallery at the capitol for Walker's Rhetoric of the State speech was by invitation only (Walker's choice of course) except for twelve, that's right count 'em, twelve seats open to the general public. That's what Republican democracy looks like."

No2 nice deflection. This state has always done the state of the state address with limited seating for everyday citizens. As usual, the current complaints are really over who is in office while they ignore the facts of what they are complaining about, since they have been going on forever. It is sooooo easy to see the complainers for what they are.

My Jvl tax bill has all negative change percentages:
State -8.5
Cty - 4.0
city -4.4
voc - -5.5
sch-jvl -2.7

The most recent assessment did increase, although only by a few hundred dollars on a modest 1950s 1000 sq foot house.

Therefore, it doesn't appear that everyone's taxes went up, and that is why I suspect that in the most recent assessment, the valuation on your house/property must have risen significantly.

That probability was well known when the contract was signed and caution was expressed by non-Murray type School Board members. Of course that is whay they pushed the contract. teapartysal --- For probably the hundredth time on these blogs...we did not rush through a contract before these changes took effect. Our contract expired in June of 2009. The SDJ and the JEA negotiated during the entire school year of 2009-2010, with the signing of the contract (a 4-year retroactive contract ending in 2013) at the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year. When Walker was campaigning for the November 2011 election, he never said, or implied he would remove collective bargaining from public employees. He dropped that bit of news in February of 2011.

Surveying only landline users skews the sample pool. How many people do you know that don't have a land line? Do they tend to be younger people - or older people? My "palatial" house is on the border of the 4th Ward, has not seen any improvements but a fence since 2001 and is surrounded by foreclosures and dilapidation. My taxes went up $327 from last year. If your home is inside Janesville and the JVL school district AND your percentages on tax increases to state, school, county and city differ from I posted - there is indeed a problem.

State 1.5% increase

County 6.4% increase

City 6.0% increase

Vocational 4.8% increase

JVL School 7.9% increase

I challenge anyone here to post different figures and prove those increases false.

Now I realize many folks believe taxes did not go up under Scott Walker, but that is an outright lie - even you wiped out the teacher's contract.

But JoyM, who is making a charge that Scott Walker personally put in a call to the Assessor to ensure his opponents' property taxes went up and his supporters' went down? YOU ARE! Do you have some sort of hallucination problem?

IF Scott is re-elected, so be it. At least we can be sure that his super majority will be no more. The dems only need to win one of 4 senate recalls to take the senate majority, then Scott will actually have to stay here in Wisconsin and GOVERN something he has done very little of thus far. Rubber stamp is not governing , not leadership.
The 2 issues that this election will be decided on. Education funding and collective bargaining. Look at the numbers I posted below. OVER 2/3 of those polled are opposed to this administrations defunding public ed. and its a half and half on Collective bargaining.
What I think will also have an impact on this election is job losses. If Wisconsin continues to lose jobs in the private sector month after month, it will be very hard for Scott Walker to sell his reforms. If things turn around and we start seeing gains, he will fare better. The fact is Wisconsin is split almost down the middle, so for either side to act as if they have a mandate is the major fault of the posters on this site, or the representatives in our government. Scott Walker has had a chance to unite the state, yet he chose not to do. He has decided to dictate to the other HALF of the state who do not agree with him. THAT IMO is his biggest miscalculation.
Like Obama , he now has a record to run on, no mre rhetoric , no more promises, examine the record and see if thats what you want going forward. If education becomes a large part of the campaign, which I believe it wioll, Walker will be in big, BIG trouble. Regardless of any poll.
BTW I saw a blog post on a politico article that made the claim that 39-57% of the recall signatures are invalid thus far. First, what an unbelievable range!! Second , I searched the internet and could find NOTHING to substantiate such numbers , anyone have anything to back those up? Doubt it. Conservative websites don't count.

I too will vote for Walker. I would say about 2/3's of the people I talk with are in support of Walker. The ones that make the most noise though are anti- Walker group.

Mouse - You know those that support Walker have no kids in school? Aren't family people? Obviously you realize that's the farthest thing from the truth and a completely false statement. You think because others don't agree politically that they don't have emotion and concern for Cathy Gifford? What is wrong with you Mouse?
-
You sit here and pretend that you are taking care of others, yet your arguments state the exact opposite. Others are taking care of your sorry existence. I guarantee, you are nowhere fit to accomplish anything you preach about and you're not paying for anyone.
-
One thing everyone knows on here. You personally failed the school system. It's blatantly obvious. You do nothing more than let your emotions take over when trying to debate. It clouds the little thought process you have. Think with some fact and do some research before you speak. There is no possible way you can hate people that don't agree with you that much.

Why would anyone vote for a candidate hand picked by union bosses, who live a life far more elite than any lived by the workers they supposedly represent? You do know it was the aflcio interviewing candidates, don't you? While I didn't vote for Walker originally, if there is a recall election, I DEFINITELY will. All I have to do is think about how much the Prosser/Kloppy recount cost, how much the recall is costing, and the fact that on my 2 property tax bills, the education portion went up in Jvl where the teachers rushed to ratify a contract prior to the new law going into effect, and down where they didn't. As far as I am concerned, the Jvl teacher's union sliced their own throats when they did that. Its about time these whiney, spoiled, entitled, self-righteous prigs got dragged into the world the rest of us deal with daily.

Let's see if I can put this in terms cottojoe can understand....it's very simple. Governor Walker never said he was going to strip away bargaining rights. Obama is not like your friend Walker who makes all sorts of wild promises (e.g. 250,000 jobs), fails, and then blames it on someone else (the national economy), while claiming at the same time that government does not create jobs. Scott Walker has repeatedly lied while on the campaign trail and after election. He was elected on false pretenses. Cry me a river. Scott Walker is bad for workers, families and Wisconsin.

Feel free to dispute the 17 major lies listed here.

"Why would half of Wisconsinites vote for a chronic liar?" .... Because our options are to either vote for politicians, or politicians.

Like using GAAP to balance the budget? Or using smoke and mirrors to cover a $3 billion deficit?

Let's see if I can put this in terms youkillme can understand....Governor Walker does what he says he will do. He's not like your friend Obama who makes all sorts of wild promises (e.g. 8% unemployment), fails, and then blames it on someone else. Scott Walker recognized the financial trouble the State was in and took steps to get it corrected. He told us as much while on the campaign trail. The irrational hoards of petition signers out there don't like it because it prevents them from feeding at the public trough to the extent they have become accustomed to. Cry me a river. It's about time you start paying for your benefits like those of us in the private sector. You still have it pretty good. The clear-minded voters in the State are tired of your bellyaching. Scott Walker is great for Wisconsin, and the majority of electorate reflects it. How'd I do DickTracy?

Interesting Poll. Lets see if the republicans who say polls mean nothing will still go there. Follow the link at the bottom of the page for detailed info. Same poll has Obama Beating either Repub frontrunner rather handily.
Funny though this poll of 701 people shows these specific issues that will be HUGE Parts of the campaign:
• 74 percent favored and 22 percent opposed requiring state workers to pay more for pension and health benefits
• 66 percent favored and 32 percent opposed the state’s new voter ID law
• 48 percent favored and 47 percent opposed limiting state employee unions’ ability to bargain over benefits and non-wage issues
• 46 percent favored and 51 percent opposed the new law legalizing the possession of concealed weapons
• 38 percent favored and 55 percent opposed limiting the number of people eligible for the BadgerCare health assistance program
• 29 percent favored and 65 percent opposed reductions in state aid to public school

The last one is the one that is most important, and will be a HUGE part of the campaign. And should be.

The article mentions a 5.0-5.2 MOE and a 7.2 MOE for the Governor's race. I wonder where they got 3.8% MOE.
.
In any case a poll with results inside the margin of error means it's really too close to call.
.
Wonder if they had Kathy Nickolaus add up the results.
