BARRON—A 49-year-old Prairie Farm woman who cut a man’s hand with a machete and reportedly threatened to kill her mother Saturday faces three charges in Barron County Court.

Terri S. Broten, 704 River Ave., was charged Monday with a felony count of second-degree reckless endangerment and misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.

She was ordered held Monday on a $2,500 cash bond. If released, she must not have contact with the victims, not use alcohol and not possess any dangerous weapons. She may go once a day to her residence while escorted by a deputy. Her preliminary hearing is set for Friday.

According to court records: Broten went to a neighbor’s house Saturday morning to borrow $20, but she was denied by the neighbor, who said she already owed him $300. Broten told the neighbor that she was upset with her mother and threatened her.

Upon returning to the residence Broten shares with her mother, Carol Broten, 72, the two got into an argument and Carol asked her daughter to leave. Terri went upstairs and returned with a machete, waved it around and threatened to kill her mother.

Other family members eventually arrived and a man was cut on a hand while trying to grab the machete from Terri. Police arrived and took Terri into custody. She continued to threaten to kill her mother.
