The Janesville Fire Department has updated its regulations regarding the Fourth of July holiday.

Because of dry weather and the planned Fourth of July festivities in Traxler Park, there will be no smoking or consumer fireworks allowed at the cloverleaf exchange area of Traxler Park on July 4, according to a news release from the city.

The cloverleaf exchange is located at the intersection of Memorial and Parker drives. For more information, contact the Janesville Fire Department at (608) 755-3050.

There is no smoking cigs because people are stupid and will toss the butts in the dead brown dried up grass and brush and could start a fire. Deal with it is is one day.

HEY... HERE'S SOMETHING TO CONSIDER: I have no problem in letting my lawn go dormant, to let my compost pile dry out. BUT, BECAUSE 'SOME' OFFICIAL says it's OK to set these d@xn things off in neighborhoods, I'm having to water. Been watering since 6:30 this morning. IS THERE A MORATORIUM ON WATER BILLS this week? Is THIS OFFICIAL picking up or excusing the common home owner's WATER BILL, the home owner who not only waters his landcape, but also the roof on his home/garage?

.
I'm so pi$$ed about this decision.

It's all about me... the city of jville has always and will always have this aura, and you'd think the destruction of the city thus far would be enough to show it's not working, but nope, here we continue.

mayhem......Id rather be around 30 cigarettes than the person who gets behind the wheel after drinking a dozen brewskis. All these lushes with multiple d.w.i are just are harmful as a smoker. COME ON CITY OF JANESVILLE, CANCEL THESE FIREWORKS....POTENTIAL HEATSTROKES AS WELL AS FIRE DANGER.......

Thanks for the history lesson!@#$%
I myself do not blow smoke in peoples faces, the term field dress, used in the military,i exercise,& the filter always goes in my pocket to be disposed of at a later time, thank you very much!!
I hope no fires start, but if they do,i hope these ignorant people will step up & pay the price, for what could've been avoided.
Just say "NO" to fireworks at this time,i like them as well as the next person, but i think it's stupid at this time to take a chance..

@woodsman_this is the day our country celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, declaring freedom from Great Britain.

As for the fireworks, the risk is the city's...why get all wound up? If you don't think it's right, and it's too hot for you, don't go....it's pretty simple!

You know what most smokers I know are the most inconsiderate people when it comes to smoking....they throw their butts wherever they want then they have to smoke 30 cigarettes in the short time you are around them. Not to mention they blow their smoke wherever and don't even ask if anyone cares if they have a cigarette. Them everyone around them has to stink like smoke because they HAVE to smoke. It is just RUDE!

I'd hate to be on the city clean-up crew if all the gaspers at the show switch to chew.

Hey! Quit smoking so you will live longer to have fun with the rest of us. Seriously, it isn't easy but you can do it.

They can intentionally try to start a fire, but a smoker would unintentionally try to start a fire??
This is suppose to be a celebration for the Veterans ,as a Vet,i will not be offended without fireworks, ban them everywhere!!

Smoking is not illegal "outdoors",fireworks are ! Now they are telling me I cannot smoke in the outdoors ? Are they freaking insane ? do we live in Communist China ? They have lost their minds and, I have to quit before I get totally banned from this site !

Good luck banning the smoking. Too many people around here think they're special, entitled little snowflakes to bother with rules, bans and laws.

As much as I love fireworks, I hate to admit that Janesville really should postpone them this year!! Not only the dry conditions, but the heat could cause some to take chances they shouldn't by coming down.

Supposed to be in the Milton parade tomorrow, but we are not going...105* is too hot to sit out from 11 am to parade start time at 1pm... (have to line up float early and be judged)Then have kids walk in it NO WAY !! I can foresee many people collapsing due to heat.

Most of the area has cancelled fireworks, JVL should too, not worth the risk of fire. I say save it for later when conditions are better...heck new years eve would be nice :)

I TOTALLY agree. WTH do they think they can do this? ONE wayward ash is all it will take. ONE. Stupid. And the people that will actually GO are stupid also in my opinion, why put yourself in harms way for NO reason. Just wait for crying out loud until it rains. This drout is already costing enough in so many ways.

I agree they shouldn't do fireworks at all.
If you already have the money and fireworks then do it later in the year. Maybe Rock around the block eve would be cool.
