Beloit fireworks start grass fire

BELOIT--Falling embers from the city of Beloit fireworks started a grass fire Wednesday night, the Beloit Fire Department reported.

Firefighters were called at 9:48 p.m. to the launch area near Riverside Drive around ABC Supply and Fairbanks Morse, Captain Scott Fisher said. The fire was contained to grass and brush, and nobody was injured.

The fire department did a controlled burn of as much of the area as it could Sunday, but the fire was able to take off in the untouched areas, he said.

Just before 11 p.m., the fire department was still busy “chasing small fires all over the city” from people shooting off banned fireworks, he said.

That is why it is so cool when it is video taped for everyone to see.

Woody - It seems that works for pretty much anyone for that matter, Huh? Rich, middle class and the poor. There are good and bad in everyone we deal with in life. But I try not to judge people based on what little information the news provides because the truth doesn't usually sell very well! But then again, who are any of us to really judge anyone?

hey woody - last time I checked, this story was about a drought, burn ban and the reality of what happens when fire meets dry conditions. You're a little off topic don't you think?

I said "some of the rich", not ALL
.
Some of the rich are outstanding people. It depends on what they try doing with it that affects others that I judge them on.

Woody - How do you know why they give donations? What is your perception of all rich people? You obviously don't know anything about the Hendricks family based on your comments. If you were to win the lottery today and the jackpot was say, $240 million, would that make you a bad person immediately just because you are now rich? If someone has different political beliefs than you, does that make them a bad person? I personally am not a fan of unions at all as I don't see their relevance in today's day and age. They were extremely necessary at one time but their greed has also been their demise.

Karma...some of the rich give only because they need a tax write off while they want to turn the state into a "right to work for less" state.

We have to have our fireworks, don't we? However incompetent and dangerous it is to light them off in extremely high fire danger conditions.

I guess for some, "patriotism" is equated with incompetence, as long as it involves a light show with noise. And I expect that this won't be the only fire that gets going in the coming days due to fireworks! At least it had the benefit of having the fire department on hand to deal with it.

Woody - Why would you call it Karma? Just because Diane doesn't have your political beliefs that means she's a bad person? Really??? There have been several years Beloit wasn't going to have fireworks because there wasn't enough money to do so and they wrote out a personal check so Beloit would have fireworks. So what is it that you do that is so wonderful to help out your community?

Really people, what part of burn ban is not understandable. Think about others, like the firefighters familys who you pulled them away from for your stupidity!
