Whitewater police reported Thursday a 6 1/2-foot red tail Colombian boa constrictor was on the loose in the city.

The snake's enclosure was damaged during a burglary between 3 and 6 a.m. Thursday at 330 N. Fremont St.

The police department and 'experienced professionals' are working with the owner to locate the snake, Capt. Brian Uhl said in a press release.

Exotic animals, including boa constrictors, are prohibited in the city of Whitewater.

Uhl said anyone with information about the snake should contact the police department at (262) 473-0555.

Snakes are good for a few things...belts, boots,etc.... They serve no purpose-very poor with rodent control as they only kill to eat, then go dorment till food digest, as opposed to a cat which will kill for the sport of it. Snakes are only active in 65 plus degree weather and for the most part are lazy-This ones probably sunning itself in someones backyard. WW PD should have an easier time spoting a loose boa, that a loose trouser snake at pumpers and mitchells.

with this heat it will hide all day and move at night, also it is nocturnal. It is likely the snake was stolen n the burglary and not wandering the town looking for Ophidiophobics to scare. The snake is harmless to anything bigger than a rat so many of you can take a breath and calm down.
