Walker declares state of emergency due to dryness
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker has declared a state of emergency in 42 southern Wisconsin counties due to drought or abnormally dry conditions.
Monday’s declaration allows for speeding up of permits for farmers to temporarily use stream or lake water for irrigation.
The U.S. Drought Monitor lists all or portions of 14 southern Wisconsin counties as experiencing a moderate drought. All or portions of 23 counties are listed as abnormally dry.
Walker is also encouraging farmers to report crop conditions to their local U.S. Farm Service Agency office. That information can be used for Walker to request a federal disaster declaration, which could make low-cost emergency loans and other assistance available.

He had a rare bright moment and seen that Wisconsin was INDEED in a drought. Now lets hope he does something for the Farmers that are losing their crops and others that have lost due to the drought, OOPs I forgot he says one thing and does another So declaring this and doing something about it, is not his way.....

sigma, you've outdid yourself this time. Blind arrogance or playful stupidity I don't know. But let's imagine how much water the streams and lakes would have if we let folks suck em dry uncontrolled............

Farmers really need permits to use stream or lake water? Wow...Let me guess the permit costs money that goes to the DNR or something stupid....The DNR corporation. Pretty soon we'll need permits or licenses to eat, breath and use the restroom. What dont you need a permit of license for?

Why does this have to be attacks on politics? The governor declared a state of emergency as he should for the counties most affected by the drought. He did his job but yet both sides can't keep from attacking each other. Simply pathetic!

Will the governor also be officially declaring three days of prayer for rain, then slash funding to volunteer firefighters like Rick Perry did in Texas?
Republicans do that sort of crap, you know.

Feels like Arizona to me. I have never seen it as dry as this in my many decades of living here. Please rain. I'll be out dancing in it, sans lightning.
This actually started last winter with the lack of snow. It was nice then, but brutal now. Sorry to all the farmer's that depend on the weather to be a little more forgiving.
We are so far behind on precipitation that I feel I am wasting my time watering the few plants that are surviving so far. My green beans were so thin and tough, I could hardly eat them. :(...My kids were happy.
