Gov. Scott Walker is scheduled to appear at the Rock County Dairy Breakfast at 7 a.m. Saturday.

onelife2live, you've got everything backwards. The irony from the republicans/corporate supporters is this... you seem to hate employees and laborers, but nearly all of you have gotten stinking rich off of the sweat and profits generated from blue and white collar wage earners and their spending power as customers. All the big businesses of Janesville and Rock County.. GM, Parker Pen, Morgan Corp, Bliss Communications, ABC Supply, SSI, Mercy, Farm and Fleet, JP Cullen and others. Don't believe me? Tell ABC Supply or any others to cut all of her workers loose and see what will happen to their business fortunes. The main point is we're all in this together and Walker started the war. If you want this division and animosity to continue between neighbors and communities - vote Scott Walker. That's not a warning ...it's a fact.

The irony from the democrats/union supporters is this.. you seem to hate big business, but many of you have made a good living and retirement and Cadillac health care off the big businesses of Janesville and Rock County.. GM, Parker Pen, Morgan Corp, ABC Supply, SSI, teachers and others. Some are union and some are not. Many union workers are overpaid because they have seniority. Seniority does not give you the right to do less every year. I seen it in the military as well, some people seem to think that because they have been at a company for x amount of years they get it easier and easier. Not a good business plan in a global economy.

It's a performance based economy today. Perform each and every day or suffer the consequences. I have been in the military where the UCMJ ruled my work and life, and the UAW where drunk people put the brakes on trucks all night long (protected by the union). Maybe the unions should be more responsible and police their so called members.

I support Gov. Walker for challenging the unions and other "special interest groups".

Wisconsin needs jobs, and big businesses bring jobs. All of this recall garbage is driving businesses away. At least until Wednesday when Gov Walker will be re-elected.

Peace.

I wonder if anyone in Barron County avoided the Dairy Breakfast because Barrett was going to be there?

The anti Walker people should have used one of those big white vans, (rented by unions, for hauling bodies to the absentee voting), and headed North to the Barron County Dairy Breakfast.

You name it, you can find some doctors or health authorities that says it's bad for you and good for you. In the vast majority of other animals (and those humans that are lactose intolerant) the body stops producing the enzyme lactase at a young age and can no longer digest lactose. This is one reason the vast majority of other animals quit drinking milk after a certain age - it makes them miserable. Another significant reason they quit drinking milk, of course, being the non-availability of milk after a certain age as the mother stops producing milk. Mother's milk for the first several months of a child's life? Sure, very beneficial. Another animal's milk for your entire life? No, the risks outweigh the benefits.

Additionally, there are very serious health issues associated with cow's milk that go beyond the consumption of the milk and result from the production of milk. Soy milk production has a significantly less detrimental impact on our health by keeping our water supply cleaner and greenhouse gas emissions lower than the production of cow's milk. Not to mention the life of dairy farm cows and veal calves (the size of the veal calf industry being related to the size of the dairy cow industry).

Thank you, I appreciate the response.

Sometimes I wonder if all the allergies we are seeing in children, the behavior problems in the schools, and what seems to be an increase in infant mortality, could be as a result of the use of soy (which really has been pushed now for at least 10-15 years).

It seems this happens way too often, a product touted as being so wonderful (or medication...statin, Hormone replacement, some blood pressure meds)turn out to be terribly wrong for us.

Enjoy your Soy, but you should really study the bad effects it can cause.
.......

Dr. Kaayla Daniel, author of The Whole Soy Story, points out thousands of studies linking soy to malnutrition, digestive distress, immune-system breakdown, thyroid dysfunction, cognitive decline, reproductive disorders and infertility—even cancer and heart disease.

Here is just a sampling of the health effects that have been linked to soy consumption:

Breast cancer
Brain damage
Infant abnormalities
Thyroid disorders
Kidney stones
Immune system impairment
Severe, potentially fatal food allergies
Impaired fertility
Danger during pregnancy and nursing

Eliminate political grandstanding at dairy farms, improve your health, reverse climate-change and reduce pollutants in our water supply: drink soy milk instead of cow's milk!

Soy milk has no lactose, no cholesterol and more essential fatty acids than cow's milk. Soy milk reduces a woman's risk of heart attack and stroke and reduces a man's risk of prostate cancer. Soy plants don't belch climate-changing methane gas and they don't excrete nitrogen-rich water polluting waste. Livestock is the leading source (almost one-fifth) of the world's greenhouse gas emissions; more than from all of our transportation systems combined.

How nice - a hay wagon tour of cow prison! If we could only get bacteria to secrete milk and stem cells to grow beef and leather(and don't laugh, we likely will!), all this forced detention and the resultant refuse concentration would be unnecessary and cows would be nothing but a fond memory of simpler times.

One day perhaps, cows will have their own state where they can live unfettered and free - under the sun!!! Until then, let's hope Obama does not make the fax pas of referring to WisconSIN's concentrated cow "camps" when honoring the dairy industry somewhere, as he did similarly in Poland! And how appropriate, too, that Our Own Lil' Scotty Walker would stage a visit to such a camp under completed under his regime...All Hail Valker!

Five Incumbents Endorsed By VFA
Posted: 04.06.2012

The Volunteers for Agriculture Committee has endorsed the five incumbents in a historic recall election scheduled for June 5.

“Governor Scott Walker and his administration have been strong advocates for agriculture since taking office in January 2011,” said Cal Dalton, a Columbia County corn, soybean and beef farmer who chairs the Farm Bureau’s political action arm, the Volunteers for Agriculture (VFA).

“Governor Walker has consistently expressed his support for use value assessment of farmland, state standards for the siting of livestock farms, and our state’s right to farm law,” Dalton said. “In addition, he has been an advocate for increasing agricultural exports and recently unveiled an initiative to increase Wisconsin’s milk production to 30 billion pounds by the year 2020.”

Dalton said Gov. Walker and Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch’s VFA endorsement comes from signing a number of Farm Bureau-supported bills into law. They include:

* A state income tax deduction for contributions to health savings accounts
* Needed reforms to wetland regulations
* A two-year state budget that did not raise fees or increase taxes
* Extension of the dairy and livestock investment tax credit
* Extension of the fall harvest road weight exemption from Nov 30 to Dec 31
* A variety of transportation bills that make it more feasible to haul ag products, manure and sealed containers for international trade
* Continued an exemption pertaining to livestock farms and air quality permits, which kept Wisconsin from being a regulatory island

The VFA also endorsed three state senators facing recall elections for their strong support of these agricultural issues over the past legislative session. The VFA Senate endorsements include:

Sen. Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) 13th Senate District
Sen. Van Wanggaard (R-Racine) 21st Senate District
Sen. Terry Moulton (R-Chippewa Falls) 22nd Senate District

Dalton also noted that Governor Walker named Wisconsin Farm Bureau President Bill Bruins to the state Natural Resources Board, and Farm Bureau members Pam Garvey and Miranda Leis to the state Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection Board. Former Farm Bureau employee Jeff Lyon was selected by Ben Brancel, Secretary of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection as his deputy secretary.

The Volunteers for Agriculture Committee is comprised of 18 farmers from across the state. The Volunteers for Agriculture was formed to give farmers a more direct role in electing leaders who best represent agriculture’s interests.

  • Be nice. No racism, sexism or any other sort of -ism that degrades another person.
  • Harassing comments. If you are the subject of a harassing comment or personal attack by another user, do not respond in-kind.  Hit the "Suggest Removal" button on offensive comments.
  • Share what you know. Give us your eyewitness accounts, background, observations and history.
  • Do not libel anyone. Libel is writing something false about someone that damages that person's reputation.
  • Ask questions. What more do you want to know about the story?
  • Stay focused. Keep on the story's topic.
  • Help us get it right. If you spot a factual error or misspelling, email newsroom@gazettextra.com or call 1-800-362-6712.
  • Remember, this is our site. We set the rules, and we reserve the right to remove any comments that we deem inappropriate.
