MILWAUKEE (AP) — The U.S. Justice Department says it will monitor elections in Wisconsin and three other states this week to ensure compliance with the Voting Rights Act. The law prohibits discrimination in the election process.

The federal agency said Monday it will send federal observers to the city of Milwaukee, which is required to provide assistance in Spanish.

The officials will monitor polling places during Tuesday's recall elections, and Justice Department attorneys will maintain contact with local election officials.

Wisconsin's attorney general also plans to send state investigators and lawyers to the polls to discourage fraud. Those officials will help ensure that voters comply with state election laws.

The federal Justice Department is providing similar monitoring in California, New Mexico and South Dakota, where elections are also being held Tuesday.

All of Walker's money and yet approval numbers have flattened out. His actions, policies and his own words are the best reason to recall him. Let's divide and conquer Walker from his attack on Wisconsin's working men and women. VOTE!

freebird007, I really hate to destroy another of conservative America's favorite myths, but we live in a country that has no federal official language. Someday soon, when your descendants are in the minority, they'll appreciate the fact they have English interpreters at polling places. Celebrate the diversity, don't denigrate it.

Those Packer players would be members of the NFL Players Union if memory serves me right. Is that true, Mouse?

The article indicates that they will also be monitoring California and South Dakota two states which already have voter ID laws in place. Evidently it doesn't seem to matter to the feds.

There is almost no voter fraud in Wisconsin. This is about VOTER SUPPRESSION, in this case, by right-wing Tea Party people trying to prevent or make it more difficult for traditionally Democratic constituencies such as students, minorities and the elderly poor from voting.

chainsawchuckie, you couldn't be more correct. The reality is the Left will complain regardless. Politics, like everything else in their lives, is someone else's fault. They're good with no rules as long as it benefits them. Example....Voter ID violates someone's rights, but having felons, animals, the deceased, people voting more than once, etc. is all right as long as it's in their favor. Should tomorrow's vote go Walker's way, it'll be someone's fault other than their own. My guess is the finger will be squarely pointed at George W. Bush. Monkey see, monkey do.

The federal government supervising the state government...oh, what could possibly go wrong with that?

I think they need about ten Federal observers in Waukesha county. Five at the county clerks office and five around her home computer, where most votes will probably be created, errr, counted.

I'm relieved that someone will be watching what Van Hollen will be doing -- the person who insists on his own watchdog monitors. This is exactly what the federal government is supposed to do.

What a Joke........If the judges would have left our voter I.D. law in effect there wouldn't be any need for this. Scott Walker for the WIN !!!!!

I thought the Demo's said there was no FRAUD IN WISCONSIN and that's why we don't need Photo ID's. Wonder why they need Photo ID's to vote in the MA Democrat Convention in Boston? Do they suspect fraud?
Feduptaxpayer: Good one on the little squeaker. Of course it will come back with its usual unanswer.
