MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Turnout for the historic Wisconsin recall election will be more than 55 percent.

About 2.5 million people cast ballots Tuesday, which would be about 58 percent of eligible voters statewide. Republican Gov. Scott Walker defeated Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett in a race that was watched throughout the country.

The Government Accountability Board had predicted that up to 65 percent of eligible voters would go to the polls.

Badgerlvr did I claim that was needed or wanted? Try reading just the words provided, I labled my opinion pretty clearly. Pictures aren't allowed to make it any easier for you.

And can you explain to people why that is both possible and occasionally happens, whz_bng?

Somewhere today while I was out cruising I heard that the Turnout in Madison was 110%. Way to go!

There are more people out shopping than ones that took the time to vote. If you want a representation of what America has become, you don't need to look any farther than that.

Alot of lazy people who get a free ride off us taxpayers are not going to get off their butt and vote. When the candidate of their choice shows up on the big screen and they can push the number 1 or 2 on the remote they will be all in then.

I'm thinking that the less teachers we have, the less educated we (our offspring) will become. Will allow those that advertise more (have more funds to do so) to be able to dictate how the election swings--less educated, more gullible and willing to vote based on glitz than facts. Might take a few generations to get 85% of the vote this way, but they only need 50.1%.

Let's not call the Mouse out to play! Enjoy the peace while it is here. My father always told us that just because someone is talking alot, doesn't mean they have anything worth hearing. The majority of the time silence speaks more loudly and more clearly.....as in the case of this entire recall. While I don't agree with everything Walker is doing; I heard nothing from Barrett to convince me he would/could do any better. Wisconsin has chosen Walker - TWICE - let it be and move on.

billnewbie: I think it is a combination of cynicism and lazy people that leave it up to the other guy. I continue to vote but it gets harder with each election. Why? For me it is because a moderate Republican or more conservatve Democrat can no longer seem to make it past their own party primary. So I am left with a far right or far left choice in the fall, neither of which fit my philosophy.

It is something of a statement about our people when, on a beautiful June day only a little more than half the people who could vote bothered to. How could so many have so little interest in affairs that will have an impact on them directly? Or has cynicism become our national pastime? Neither alternative speaks well for us as a people.

The voter turnout numbers regardless of who you voted for are still pathetic for a high profile election like this

Regardless of the numbers or statistics…The majority have spoken!
What is sad? People who are oblivious to the truth and/or afraid of change.
Moving Forward: Unions or deranged politicians with a fetish for trains/trollies will not have control over the future of this state.

Overall, I believe that every person in the state of Wisconsin needs to “step up to the plate”, make sacrafices, and invest in their own future.

Sadly there are way too many people that are content to let others make choices for them. I guess that is one way to use your freedom, but I don't agree with it.
