Walker schedules brat summit for Tuesday
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker has scheduled his brat summit with state lawmakers on Tuesday, a week after he won a recall election.
Walker promised the night of the election that he would start mending political wounds by inviting both Democrats and Republicans to the governor's residence for a casual get together over brats and beers.
Walker has set the cookout for Tuesday.
Walker's first year and a half in office has been marked by deep partisan division, which helped spark the recall drive. After his 7-point win, both Walker and Democrats talked about the need to move forward in a more bipartisan way.

Your comments give me hope the Democrat party is not lost to the radical submit or else left.
I for one appreciate your point of view.
I did feel in 2008 Obama had all the money and to hear it now used against Walker is laughable to me.
I hear and see the left everyday complain about something Walker did that Obama has already done and not that I agree with all of Walker's actions, but I have no trouble pointing out the hyprocrisy of those on this site.
Obama had a 76% appoval rating, meaning many were willing to give this young Senator a chance.
This center right country has had enough.

I have to admit the comments on this story make me sick. I was not a Walker supporter by all means, however I give him credit for calling this summit. Yes it may be politics, but that's the world we live in. What I am looking for is a leader to stand up and say, we have our differences, but it's time to work together. Yes actions speak louder than words, so we will see with what legislation he comes with next. However we got our butts handed to us, and he could have been like, heh go screw yourself, you think that by getting a Democratic Senate that he couldn't say, so what I got a huge majority didn't I? Take my agenda and like it. When are we going to quit dwindling around with hate filled antics on blogs and force leaders to actually lead? I don't like the way Scott handled collective bargaining, but he won because he had a plan, stuck with it, and didn't back away from it. Independent voters who had no stake in Union Rights saw something there. I believe they will pay for it in the long run, but they saw something they liked and went with it. This state went to Obama because he put himself out there, the same state went to Walker because he put himself out there. We aren't a blue or red state, were a state where we give votes to those who put themselves out there. Like it or hate it if we start chastising our leaders for sitting down for lunch and actually having a conversation were never going to get anywhere. Yes I don't like Scott, yep I wanted someone different, Yes I will work in the 2014 election to beat whatever Republican they put out there, but were no longer in election season, the people have spoken, like it or hate it these guys and girls have serious work to do. Blame whoever you want, that's fine, but it's not going to get us anywhere, and if your a Dem like I am, it's sure not going to get us more votes. Let's start talking about what our parties can do for Wisconsinites and quit worrying about the other guy all the time, its why we just got our keysters handed to us.

I never said the members of the union weren't constituents, did I?? What I did say is that this special interest group did EVERYTHING in their power to undermine his legislation and get him thrown out of office. Now who do you think he's going to respond and give priority to? The people that crucified him since he took office and spent tens of millions in an attempt to get him thrown out of office, or the people who have shown unwavering support for both the person and the policies though two elections? I don't think that Walker will have any problem working with "those that vehemently oppose him". What these people have to come to terms with is that there is a new set of conditions and rules that have been brought into play. These conditions and rules will provide the framework for the direction the state takes from here on out........

Walker is speaking about unifying our state, will he follow through? His communication director is tweeting snarky and negative things about the recall, a person on Walker's payroll. Kris Barrett: Divide And Conquer
Wisconsin Radio Network ran a Q&A with Kris Barrett, wife of Mayor Tom Barrett after she turned in his nomination papers earlier this year. Kris Barrett, you'll remember, illegally used state resources to politick on government time.
Kris Barrett has been stumping for her husband and is a part of his campaign which is why I am using her words against her.
During the debate Friday Mayor Barrett repeatedly brought up a phrase the Governor used when talking to a donor about his strategy, a common metaphor "divide and conquer."
I say it's common because, when she dropped off the papers, she told WRN, "He has faith in me. I mean, we have a short amount of time to get the word out and to get Tom's message spread and divide and conquer."
"Divide and conquer."
Tom Barrett repeatedly talks about Scott Walker's ideological civil war and yet, here's the Mayor's wife saying the exact same thing.

Divide/conquer has been around forever and I agree that Gov'na Walker saying that is crossing a line for a politician. I didn't cast a vote for Walker because I do question his ethics/motives, but then I've come to question the ethics/motives of almost all state/fed politicians. I still do not think that it's ok for someone to say that if I am not voting for their candidate I am against that person and their interests. Something seriously wrong with that to from my perspective, mostly because it is just not true and it most certainly seems they are trying to pit me against them.

I'm for a live and let live society, so if a person, business or organization fails, let it happen on their accord and actions - not to fail because a hater financed or organized a campaign to destroy them. Then they deserve everything back in kind with twice the force. I was raised to tolerate the intolerant but not to turn my other cheek.
Divide and conquer has been around as long as mankind, but when a publicly elected chief executive issues that strategy in his own words against a constituency. Man, something is desperately wrong.

Either you want them in or you don't. How would you introduce compromise into something that is so cut and dry? Have the unions run the show for half the year and kick them out the other half:) As this last vote has clearly shown, the people of this state has had enough of the unions--people like you are going to have to find a way to compromise your beliefs to fall in line with this reality....Good luck and good day sir.......

Public unions are never going to cede their dominance over taxpayers without a fight.”
The majority of Wisconsin's residents made it very clear with their support of Walker, that they no longer wanted to fight this fight with the unions. When you're dealing with people who absolutely and firmly believe that "there's a right side and a wrong side and the middle is always evil," you're dealing with people who view moderation, negotiation, compromise and common ground as extremism. That's Scott Walker. The Tea Party is built on no compromise - no negotiation. It's the party of Anders Breivik. Those who voted for Walker and then think he's about seeking common ground and moderation have not been paying attention at all. You voted for divide and conquer as the way forward. You voted against your own best interests. Any overtures toward reconciliation are completely disingenuous.
