Wisconsin governor mans grill at bipartisan picnic

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker donned a white apron to man the grill at a bipartisan picnic he is hosting just a week after winning a recall election.

A bipartisan group of nearly 100 state lawmakers attended the Tuesday cookout at the governor’s mansion. Walker dubbed it a brat (braht) summit after the type of sausages popular in Wisconsin that were being served.

Republicans and Democrats who attended the event say it was a positive first step to begin to heal some of the wounds of the past 18 months, when a fight over union rights culminated in Walker’s recall.

But Democrats also say they are waiting to see more substantive signs that Walker is serious about working across party lines.

"The PAC, operated from a former architecture studio on Arrow Street near Harvard Square, functions as an online clearinghouse for campaign contributions to Democrats of all stripes, allowing anyone in the country to donate any allowable amount to any candidate with the click of a mouse: You send the money to ActBlue (actblue.com), and ActBlue funnels it to the campaigns. This gives local, state, and national Democratic candidates a cheap, efficient means of building a base of supporters over the Internet."

RAF, ActBlue is simply a clearing house for many, many political organizations who want to contribute to Democrats. It receives money from hundreds of thousands of individuals and groups. It is not even remotely like ALEC, a Republican law-writing lobby, or the Koch brothers, two Rich dudes.

saxcat - of course they don't have any employees, who earn a living (YEAH, a very meager earning,'cause the rich need another boat or vacation home). They don't donate billions of dollars to local communities (mainly tax right-offs the Walkers and Bush's gave them. Would they be so generous if they could not write it off?). they are simply bottom feeders (no, they are TOP feeders who leave very little for others).

@fedupsaxplayer (yeah, I can do that too) - How many companies moved overseas for cheaper labor? Oh, it may help you 401K, but it kills the American middle class.

Thank you Tim Cullen for attending and your encouraging comments. It's a shame the Democrats on this site aren't as accepting of the people's will.

chad_vader you might want to slow down and look at the real numbers for these things before claiming things. 50% of the top 20 groups giving money in politics are unions http://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/list.php... and the leading group is a dedicated dem money group called ActBlue. ActBlue spends over 5 times the money that the evil koch brothers do but yeah, don't let the facts get in the way of your message.

RAF - funny how you can combine "unions" into one entity in your statement, yet separate the money contributions made to the Republican party by the self serving moneybags. Not to mention the NRA and other large associations.

Both sides get big contributions. Difference is, while the unions fight for themselves, they also are fighting for rights of their members (who are mainly middle class). The people you defend only care about lining their own gilded pocket even more off the backs of the people who do the work for them.

But hey ...... ssshhhhh! I won't let the truth slip out ... oh darn! just did....

This feed is a microcosm of this state. It's turned into something that resembles a bitter sports rivalry where the fan of the other team doesn't know what they are talking about and is absolutely wrong. The reality is that both sides of the aisle have faults and positive ideas. The democrats appear to lack good leadership within their party to counter growing conservative sentiment that's historically common in times of recession. We all agree that health care is a bit over priced, but like civil rights, it is inconceivable to accomplish lofty goals when the public is focused on growing economic uncertainty.

Gov. Walker, thank you for showing the rest of the nation that having our elected officials imbibe alcohol and eat ground up animals encased in animal intestines is somehow going to help our legislative process.

Funny how the left is only concerned about money when it comes from people on their hit list like the evil koch or ALEC. Never mind both are serious minorities in the money game, dwarfed by heavy spenders like unions and ActBlue....but, shhhhhh don't let the truth slip out.

I'm not from your state, and I do not live in the USA (I'm overseas in Korea working as a teacher). A few of us foreigners were sitting around talking politics. Your name came up, along with several comments we'd seen made by your opponents about you, "wanting to be a rock star" for taking-on the public sector unions. We thought about it, discussed it, and realized that what your opponents have done is truly create a rock star. By that, we meant that you are a politician who actually had the guts to take a stand, lived through the backlash, and (so far) have emerged with a record that shows your policies are working. If you can keep that up, and play it straight, we have no doubt that you'll be president one day. Your opponents are as much to blame as you are -- yes, they have created a rock star, and I think they are scared of that fact!

Thank you Governor Walker for putting those union thugs in their place, you know, the teachers and public employees. Now it's time to go after the police and firefighter union thugs. After all, Diane Hendricks paid you to make this a right to work state.
