Wis. DNR proposes erasing 11 obsolete rules

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The state Department of Natural Resources wants to eliminate nearly a dozen rules to comply with Republican Gov. Scott Walker's order to identify language hindering businesses.

Walker ordered all state agencies in February to review their rules and change any language that burdens small businesses.

DNR officials launched an initial review in April. They identified 11 rules they say are obsolete, including limits on mercury discharges, restrictions on hunting in the Horicon wildlife refuge and air permit fees.

They say the rules duplicate other rules or govern programs that no longer exist and eliminating the language won't harm the environment.

The agency plans to complete a comprehensive review by next spring. The Natural Resources Board ultimately would have to sign off on any changes.

916- need another? Here ya go
"Pollution and resource fines

In May 2001, Koch Industries paid $25 million to the federal government to settle a federal lawsuit that found the company had improperly taken more oil than it had paid for from federal and Indian land.

In 2007, Koch Nitrogen's plant in Enid, Oklahoma, was listed as the third highest company releasing toxic chemicals in Oklahoma, according to the EPA, ranking behind Perma-Fix Environmental Services in Tulsa and Weyerhaeuser Co. in Valliant. The facility produces about 10% of the US national production of anhydrous ammonia, as well as urea and UAN.

In 2010, Koch Industries was ranked 10th on the list of top US corporate air polluters, the "Toxic 100 Air Polluters", by the Political Economic Research Institute at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Amherst

916- here is another for ya
"ThinkProgress has learned that the Walker administration, along with state Supreme Court judge David Prosser, has quietly worked to allow Koch’s many Georgia Pacific paper plants to pollute Wisconsin by pouring thousands of pounds of phosphorus into the water."

Hummm yeah walker is one to be trusted, he is selling out WI to who ever pays him the most, which means he's a puppet.

916 - try this
"Barrett points back, claiming Walker delayed an overflow basin project by calling for repeated studies that did not need to be done.

"We have not been able to achieve everything we wanted to do," Barrett said. "But, part of it is because of his pattern over and over and over again of deferring maintenance."
-
So you think raw sewage is equal to mercury?
I don't think poo is going to posion the fish do you?
Barrett had a plan but the Milwaukee County Executive (walker) delayed it over and over and over. Hummmm so who's to blame? The one with the plan or the one who stoped what was needed to do to fix it?

Is it the reduction of water quality that makes everyone mad or the mercury content? What is next, will we be drinking "heavy water"? Will the politicians be staying around long enough to drink OUR WATER in the future or will they be in D.C. drinking $300 a bottle safe water?

Then Fedup said it.

Wigs......The key here is that Barrett was in charge when polluted water was dumped into the lake. You know--the pollution actually happened:)
Please provide the actual proof that Walker directed the DNR to lift the Mercury limits so that the Koch brothers could then move all of their mercury into WI and dump it in our rivers and lakes......You guys get more and more idiotic every day. Walker winning this election has really messed you people up--It really is funny to watch the breakdowns happen right before our eyes too!:)
Keep up the good work Governor Walker--and you better get a few more mental institutions in the budget to accommodate some of the liberals who are in the process of totally losing it!

Wiggles, when will you get over it? The left lost in two open elections, the original election and the special election that cost the state millions of dollars to hold. The PEOPLE of Wisconsin spoke loud and clear, get off it and move on to something constructive.
Chelleandlou, read the article again please, the DNR is removing laws that are duplicated in other agencies.
They say the rules duplicate other rules or govern programs that no longer exist and eliminating the language won't harm the environment.

chelleandlou - Horicon wildlife refuge (northern 2/3 of the marsh) is owned by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, thus the DNR has no power over it. The DNR only manages the southern 1/3 (Horicon State Wildlife Area) of the marsh and already allows hunting. There are "limited use" and hunting "zone" areas with different rules within the DNR controlled area, and whether or not those are affected, I don't know.

Why would limits on mercury discharges be obsolete? How do restrictions on hunting in the Horicon wildlife refuge benefit small business? A refuge should be a no hunting zone; to say it's obsolete is ridiculous!
