TOWN OF BELOIT—A town of Beloit Fire Department official was treated for minor injuries after his department SUV crashed into a tractor as he was headed to a fire this afternoon, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office reported.
According to sheriff’s reports:
Town of Beloit Fire Chief Dennis D. Ahrens, 47, Beloit, was being treated at Beloit Memorial Hospital after his 2006 Dodge Durango SUV struck a tractor driven by Milton M. Landis, 35, of Orfordville.
A preliminary investigation showed Ahrens and Landis were both southbound on South Afton Road just south of West Creedy Road.
Several cars were between Ahrens and Landis, and after Ahrens passed those vehicles he attempted to pass Landis’ tractor, which was pulling a hay mower.
Landis then turned left and started to head east across the highway, and Ahrens’ vehicle struck the side of the tractor. Ahrens reportedly had his vehicle’s emergency lights on at the time.
The crash happened about 3:20 p.m. today as crews from the town of Beloit Fire Department were responding to a fire at 2263 S. Nye School Road.
Ahrens reportedly had minor back pain after the crash, and his vehicle sustained heavy damage. Landis was not injured, and his tractor had minor damage.
