Wholesale baking company Hostess Brands Inc., has notified the state it may lay off more than 180 workers in Wisconsin as part of its plan to get out of bankruptcy.

WAOW-TV reports Hostess Brands has filed a notice with the state Department of Workforce Development. The maker of Twinkies and Wonder Bread says it may have to shut down or significantly scale back operations at its plants in nine cities; including Madison, De Pere, Sheboygan, Oshkosh, Brookfield, Greenfield, Wausau, La Crosse and Eau Claire.

Hostess says the change may affect about 184 employees in Wisconsin. The company filed for Chapter 11 protection in January, its second trip through bankruptcy court in less than a decade.

Gandolf I kind of laughed at that remark too because i didnt see it possible considering how economy has been. I don't think a lot of his voters voted for him because of that promise. Some voters i suspect just like to see change. This economy is such a pickle we're desperate for ideas and with prices continually climbing i don't know how we'll avoid another recession with the kind of debt we have.

Welcome to what happens in the private sector, unlike the public sector where they just rape the taxpayer for more money.

In regards to generac I'm not surprised they're having trouble considering their sales. I made numerous calls between 2009-2011 all unresponded. I was interested in purchasing three large generators which project has now been suspended.

For the record their money troubles have absolutely nothing to do with who is governor in wisconsin present, past or whatever!

My grandkids feel that the loss of Twinkies is a real modern American tragedy. I think I agree. I fondly remember looking forward to a Twinkie in my school lunch box once a month as a youngster. Maybe a foreign company in China, Japan or India can fill the market void created by the disappearance of this tasty and uniquely American confection. Perhaps the treat will be made more healthful with added fish slime protein, sea ooze or algae.

Generac has done that for years, they thrive on natural diasters, no diasters no generators needed.

Barrett's city of Milwaukee lost 4400 jobs. The entire state of Wisconsin is 6.8 unemployment while Milwaukee is 10.4%. He's taking us down in totals and percentage.
Re-Elect Scott Walker.

I wish they would go back to the old recipe for making Twinkies. They used to taste wonderful years ago. Now days the Twinkies have a strange dirt type taste you can tell it is very artificial. They were much better years ago.

It is the Hostess Companies fault,I guess some of you just can't realize that. If you think Barrett would be better than Walker than you are absolutely out of touch with reality .

Hostess is a nationwide company whose headquarters isn't even located in Wisconsin. The article even states (if people would read) that they've been in bankruptcy twice in 10 years.

Job loses aren't Walkers fault. The issue is he promised to create so many jobs and he keeps getting further and further behind. It was a stupid and erogent promise to make. That is why I will be voting for Barrett.

I think the more companies that make absolute crap to pollute our populations go under the better. can't say i'd be sad to never see ding dongs and wonder bread on a store shelf ever again.

Walkers fault. If he wants to take credit for Wisconsin gaining jobs he has to be responsible for its job losses as well.

@totellthe truth- Are you saying that a company as old as Hostess who has always had a union is suddenly put out of business by union demands. There are far more factors that unions such as an unhealthy ecomomy that was brought on by years of Bush poilitics, banks, and investment companies not to mention corporate mismanagement. People are also eating healthier.

Shopierehuh/WisconsinResident, I challenge you to give me one reason this is Walker's fault. Hostess has been suffering losses for years before you even knew of Walker. They have an outdated business plan and they heave done nothing to reinvent themselves. Please, I can't wait to hear what either of you have to say. This is going to be fun.

Are you kidding me the company hostess is filing bankruptcy and you are blaming Walker? Wow nice stretch. I refuse to give Walker credit for jobs created but I am not about to slam him for this. Have we really gotten to this point where your partisan BS completely dictate your thought and in turn makes you spew complete idiocy?

If their cupcakes and twinkies still tasted as good and were as fresh as when I was a kid, maybe people would have kept on buying them...
(by the way, I remember when they were 5 cents a pack...YIKES)
