Unemployment rates drop in Wis. cities, counties

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Unemployment rates have dropped in most Wisconsin counties and largest cities.

The Department of Workforce Development reported the latest figures for April on Wednesday, less than two weeks before the June 5 recall election targeting Gov. Scott Walker.

Unemployment figures have been a major issue, with Walker relying on one set of numbers that show Wisconsin gained more than 23,000 jobs in 2011 while his opponent Tom Barrett points to another that shows a nearly 34,000 job loss.

The latest figures show 30 of the state’s largest cities had an unemployment rate decrease last month. Mount Pleasant saw a small increase and Brookfield’s was unchanged.

Every county except one had an unemployment rate decrease. Iron County’s rate increased from 12.7 percent to 12.8 percent.

When is everyone going to realize that the numbers Walker brags on are so out of reality it is a joke!! Sure, unemployment is down...because people's benefits are running out. It does not mean they have jobs, it just means they are no longer counted because their benefits ran out. Jobs are not on as big of rise as Walker states because when the unemployment numbers drop because of the reason stated above, they count it as someone getting a job because he/she is no longer collecting unemployment. So has walker done as good as he brags about? HELL NO !!!! He is still a lying sneak manipulating numbers to make himself look good.

When Obama's policies don't work nationwide or in Wisconsin under Doyle who lost 157,000 jobs, why do you reject Gov Walker who's policies are working. Working to help save Obama's butt.
If all the cities in Wisconsin layed off public employees as Milwaukee, Kenosha, and Janesville have in rush to resign contracts. More then 15,000 would have lost jobs given the ratio applied.
The Democrats would have sent all those teachers state wide pink slips to balance the budget and raise taxes.
Governor Walker did neither and for that he's getting recalled.

"I love how all you idiots out there think it's about public employees paying for their pensions. If you think that, you are a bumbling fool."
.
That's right guzler, but I wouldn't expect those bumbling fools to be able to understand this either:

.
I have a part of your answer for you about Generac.
.
Most temporary employees that are "laid off" are poor performers. The good performers are taken off the rolls of the employment agency and taken on full time by the manufacturer.
.
Orders for manufacturing are always cyclical. When orders are on the lower side. This provides an "excuse" to sift out or dump poor performers.
.
Remember it's always *some* of the temps who are being let go.. Never all of them.
.
As always the cream rises to the top.
.
Hard workers who can SHOW UP TO WORK EVERY DAY get laid off only in the very worst of times.

guzler12oz:

You said; "Sit down and negotiate and good things happen."
.
The advent of Gov. Walker was brought on because Unions refused for years to deal with Gov. Doyle (their friend). Doyle informed union leaders of the impending financial shortfalls and the concequences that would follow.. They ignored their friend Doyle and demanded further salary increases, with no thought to making a sacrifice in tough times.
.
The unions refused to "sit down and negotiate"
.
These facts are irrefutable.
.
Gov. Walkers's existence while grotesque, was brought on by the Union's stiff necked refusal to bargain. Nothing more.

The only reason why the unemployment rate dropped is because they kicked people off of unemployment in April. It does not mean they found jobs.

Can some one contact Generac and ask why all the temp employees are gone and being let go and why all the talk of lay offs and slow downs right after the BIG push to get a bus from Janesville to Whitewater going ? is very sad especially when there plants in Eagle and Waukesha dont seen to be laying off ? maybe the Janesville Gazette can ask ? Please ?!!!

Yup, Scotty is doing a great job. He divided the state so much no one wants to work together. Sounds like the unions had it right all along. Sit down and negotiate and good things happen. Instead he is on his second phase of his corrupt plan... the conquering of the middle class.

I love how all you idiots out there think it's about public employees paying for their pensions. If you think that, you are a bumbling fool. They agreed to pay for pensions from the get go. When you idiots can come up with something substantial then you can open your mouth.

Well at least it is nice to see that Walker's divide and conquer strategy is working. Nobody wants to work together and get this state moving, it is them vs. us.

Slickster I agree. Too bad this pattern has started, breaks for companies to move. This has created a mess much like the public financing demands of major teams and their parks and stadiums. Holding tax payers hostage (so to speak) to maintain or attract is nonsensical. The only problem is until all governments stop the process it will continue.

I believe a major reason the unemployment rate is falling is because many people are no longer able to claim unemployment insurance.

Slickster, I'm one who totally agrees with that. States using tax collections and government power as "incentives" to pick winners and losers from other states or innerstate communities are not job creators - they're thieves in the worst way and only help create hard feelings and more divisiveness. It certainly won't foster economic growth for the long term and is not built on good will.

This article is "fluff". If the unemployment rate went down it is because minimum wage jobs went up. Support even yourself on a minimum wage job?

Just a semi-related comment. It is not creating jobs to steal a business from another State. We are not the only State guilty of this, but I'm sick of States raiding other States and calling it job creation. It's not job creation unless it's a start-up or an expansion of an ongoing business.

Ronnie Dio's stage name was taken from a New York mobster, Johnie Dio, Ronnie was also famous for introducing the Devil Horns hand gesture. Nothing like the scouts honor hand gesture, any truth to the rumor about a Walker badge, you just have to buy it?

Unemployment rates have dropped because so many people have not been able to get a job and are not on the unemployment list anymore. Another reason is people are leaving wisconsin. Proof of that is school enrollment dropping. Good job????? NOT

Walkergate update
If Walker is following the letter of the law & is innocent, he should NOT have to hire lawyers for FBI JOHN DOE PROBE to defend him. UNLESS - he is connected in some way or via directing someone under him to do something illegal.
What did Scotty know and when??? Why won't he release emails???

Unemployment also dropped because lot of unemployed left the state to take a job in another state. We are still last in the country for jobs gained no matter how you count the numbers. Low income people saw a tax increase. Rich people saw a tax decrease.

Good News but have to agree with Vatoloco, within a short period of time the Doom and Gloom team will be out in full force with every negative they can come up with. Sort of boring after awhile.
