Walker transfers $100,000 to legal defense fund
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker has transferred $100,000 to his legal defense fund he established related to an ongoing criminal probe that's already ensnared some of his former aides and associates in Milwaukee County.
Walker's latest campaign finance report filed with the state on Tuesday shows transfers of $70,000 and $30,000 out of his campaign account to the Scott Walker Trust. He previously transferred $60,000 into the account.
His Democratic challenger in Tuesday's recall election Tom Barrett has repeatedly called on Walker to disclose who is paying for his legal defense fund. Walker has refused to say.
Walker reported raising $5.1 million between April 24 and May 21. Barrett reported raising $3.1 million over the same period. To date, Walker has raised about $31 million compared with about $4.3 million for Barrett.

RetiredAirForce - ""Partisan politics plays no role in any decision made by this office," said Chisholm, a Democrat. "We did not independently initiate this investigation; it was brought to us by the previous county executive's administration." - well of course that is true. Only a Walker administration would have felons working for them so indeed it was brought to them by the "previous county executive's adminstration". No other administration would be worthy of such an investigation.

Why would walker need to DEFEND himself if he asked for the investiation?
I'll use terms you can understand.
If a employee (walker) knew a co-worker was stealing from the company and went to the bosses (FBI) why oh why would he need a defence fund to defend himself? Unless of course the people arrested and evidence shows he (walker) is involved.
If walker asked for the investigation why does he need a DEFENCE fund?
We as WI voters have a right to know what he is defending himself against. Would any sane person vote for a corrupt walker? Only the insane would.

RAF,
From the Jan. 6, 2012 article you linked to your 5/31/12 @ 1:21 am comment:
from body of article -
"Walker, in an eight-minute conference call Thursday with reporters, said he was "very disappointed" about the alleged theft but emphasized that his office had been responsible for raising initial concerns about bookkeeping at Operation Freedom, an annual military appreciation day held at the Milwaukee County Zoo. Tom Nardelli, his chief of staff at the time, had contacted prosecutors about discrepancies in Operation Freedom's past records under Kavanaugh."
from photo caption -
"Walker’s office brought bookkeeping concerns to the attention of the district attorney’s office."

I'm not at all insinuating that they wanted to keep it quiet. Walker's administration wanted it out in the open. It is clear that they had no idea about the can of worms that the initial information brought to the DA would open. That's all. They must not have believed that the evidence could be linked to other ALLEGED wrong doing.
Also, Edwards is a piece of garbage. Party affiliation has nothing to do with that. If he broke the law then he should be punished accordingly. The jury is literally still out on that case.

Since the left is so caught up in "rights". It is everyone's right to defend themselves. I'd like to know why the left double talks this issue. You complain because he defends himself as you continue to refer to him as John Doe. If you already know him to be John Doe, then why do you have a problem with someone's right to defend themselves?

Walter, would love to see any proof to your allegations regarding bookkeeping they knew they couldn't keep secret. Your insinuation suggests they wanted to keep it quite is interesting please provide that proof as well. While you are digging up that stuff don't forget to toss in the proof over how he had anything to hide from the DA at all.
I will be more than happy to send any government official, at any level, to jail for illegal activities. But I will also step very carefully over claiming anyone broke any laws until they are convicted. I find it funny you brought up Edwards, since most dems have conveniently forgot all about how not to long ago not only was he running for president and then on the ticket as vice president for the dem party.

hedgehog.......You people are so silly! Walker didn't create the divide, he was a result of it! The divide came directly from an overreach of the democrats/unions within the state when the republicans responded accordingly. No, we didn't go kicking and screaming to the capital, we didn't threaten to boycott local businesses and our representatives didn't make spectacles of themselves by running and hiding in "undisclosed locations in northern Illinois", what we did do is show up when it counts--on election day. In one election cycle, we took over every branch of the state government and charged those we put in those positions with making serious changes......Which is exactly what Walker and the other Republican representatives are doing. Have a nice day!:)

I have to ask myself why the democrats support using data that has such a small sample size with so much margin for error??

Let's get something straight on why the Walker administration brought the investigation to the DA's office. There were BOOKKEEPING discrepancies that they knew couldn't be kept secret involving those two mopes Russell and Pierick. Walker was simply trying to cover his butt. However, showing the true colors of a college dropout, he didn't realize that he was giving the DA an open invitation to look into other campaign improprieties by other aides and Walker himself. He unwittingly (did he ever have any wits?) gave the DA's office the keys to his little campaign kingdom. And for those that think Walker is safe because no charges have yet been filed, consider how long it took for John Edwards to be charged and then ultimately go to trial. With a high profile target, the prosecutors make damn sure that they've covered every base. That takes A LOT of time.

If Walker plans on taking credit for his questionable job creation numbers, he must also take credit for job loss numbers. The same goes for Barrett. If he touts crime reduction as his doing in any way, he must also take the hit for crime increase. I can tell you one thing from personal experience, Walker can trot out all the different jobs numbers he can find, but the initial claims applications department at the DWD is just as busy if not busier now as they were before Walker took office. Just hired a group of people to deal with the volume last fall. Brought in some more a couple months ago, and they've just started the hiring process again to bring in even more.

fact - not opinions. Walker did not request the investigation. Nardelli did. Walker had no choice but to agree. Walker has not been granted immunity from prosecution. An elected official can only establish a legal defense fund if they, or their agent, are under investigation for, charged with, or convicted of violations of Wisconsin’s campaign finance and election laws.
Yesterday, Walker stated that his criminal defense fund will not be used to defend his associates - that means the fund was setup for his legal defense.

Who is the next person to go after, in the next round of recalls? When will this John Doe probe be finalized ? Big bussiness wants to pay no state taxes, just who is going to pay to keep Wisconsin's infrastructure up, something simple as plowing snow to keep the roads open to deliver manufactured goods, maybe the 1%ers will step up. Break the unions, make Wisconsin a right to work state, all that increase in pay will be more then enough to offset the windfall tax breaks given to the domestic manufacturers.

"Gov. Scott Walker said Wednesday he will not use campaign funds to pay for the criminal defense of his aides.
Walker made the comment a day after a report show he had transferred $100,000 from his campaign account to a criminal defense fund he has set up. In all, he has put $160,000 into the account.
That fund can be used for himself, his campaign or those working for his campaign. But Walker's comments Wednesday indicate he would use the funds only for himself or the campaign.
Three of Walker's former aides from his time as Milwaukee County executive have been charged, as has one of his appointtees and a major donor. The secret John Doe probe continues.
Walker said he put money into the defense fund so that he could provide thousands of documents to Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm, who is heading the investigation. Hiring attorneys was necessary to make that efficient, he said.
"It doesn't make any sense as governor to spend my time, spending hours over days, doing that," he told reporters at a campaign stop at Laminations Central in Appleton."
***
Let's break this down:
Walker now admits that the legal defense fund is only for him and his "campaign". No aides will have their legals bills paid with that money. Very interesting....
Also, why does he need $160,000 worth of high priced attorney fees if all they're doing is gathering and submitting documents. Our special little boy Scotty must think that we're all college dropouts like him. These people are not thugs, goons or mindless drones as some people are so fond of generalizing them ALL to be. I am getting really tired of the simple minded political trick of finding one example of a union or public employee doing something wrong and painting the entire group of unions or public employees / teachers in the same color for some news bang factor.
These people are your neighbors, relatives and fellow Wisconsinites, unless you can actually talk about one person and one act you would like to discuss then you are no better than the paid political tools that are paid very well to throw our elections to whomever is willing to lie, cheat and throw as much mud as required to sway an election by convincing the people who only watch news and listen to radio that only agrees with their political persuasions. Former Sen. Alan Simpson (R-Wyo.) lashed out at members of his party on Sunday, slamming them for their unwillingness to compromise on proposed tax increases.
In his characteristically colorful style, Simpson told CNN's Fareed Zakaria that Republicans' rigid opposition to new tax revenues has hampered productivity and diminished the chances of reaching an agreement with Democrats on debt reduction.
"You can't cut spending your way out of this hole," Simpson, who was appointed as co-chair of President Obama's Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform in 2010, said. "You can't grow your way out of this hole, and you can't tax your way out of this hole. So put that in your pipe and smoke it, we tell these people. This is madness."

Hmmm. Unions are thugs and dirtbags but it's Scott Walker who thought about planting troublemakers among peaceful Wisconsinites last year and is now the only governor with a criminal defense fund. Why he's innocent until proven guilty.

What I love is that when the numbers are in favor of your team you seem to gloat, when they are not "polls mean nothing". Walker may very well win on June 5th, that would be unfortunate for Wisconsin, i am predicting he loses the senate and his rubber stamp power over our state.

Do you think it was all magic and the employer gave people benefits and all the other good things we now have. Some people just don't get it...and you are one that does not. lets start by saying that we ALL pay taxes, every one of us. YOU are not personally paying for civil servants retirement, THEY WORK for IT!! Your hsterics that somehow if Barrett wins this race youll never be able to retire are also laughable! Even when Doyles "billion dollars" in taxe hikes went into affect , it didnt affect you if you are at all worried about your retirement, because they were almost completely aimed at wealthy folks, so please spare me the partisan hysterics. My property taxes went up very little under Doyle, and the went up slightly under Walker, whats the difference? The election is about cheerleading anymore, not anything else. Its not a matter of whats factual and whats not, its about sticking with your team. The problem I have with Walker and the Fitz boys is the iron fist sttyle of governing, Walker won by a slim margin last time, and he enacts legislation like he won with 75% of the vote!!
Look at all the polls that you want about the election. Look at the Marquette law poll that says almost 70% of wisconsinites DISAGREE with the Governors stance on cutting k-12 funding to education. Goes to show that no matter what team many cheer for ed cuts should not be on the list of ways to balance the budget. Yes - he has the legal right to (a) take from his campaign fund to fund a legal defense and (b) retain an attorney to defend himself from criminal charges. I freely admit he has not been convicted of any crimes, nor has he even been formally charged. Walker was allowed unlimited individual contributions, from the time the recall drive started until March 30, due to a quirk in the law. Hence his fundraising accross the country during that time. Unfortunately bebe53, the Republican mantra since FDR is to destroy all unions, not just the more modern public Unions.
From Wiki: "In 2010, the percentage of workers belonging to a union in the United States (or total labor union "density") was 11.4%, compared to 18.6% in Germany, 27.5% in Canada, and 70% in Finland.[1] Union membership in the private sector has fallen under 7%[2] — levels not seen since 1932."
Unions neither for public employees or private companies are a driving problem to American companies today, however the shrill yapping of right wing extremists and a public that digests their political "news" in 15 second soundbites have driven a non-existant issue to the forefront. It's about ideology, not about jobs, but in the end, all about the money. The constant drone of Republican zombies claiming "union thugs" are ruining America, are the very ones ruining America.
You'll note that the above countries with much higher union memberships today, have quite robust economies, even in today's world.

Where does Barrett stand???? This election is CLEARLY about the unions trying to preserve their entitlements (it is NOT about the children).
Barrett Can't Name One Policy He'd Pursue to Create Jobs in Wisconsin
"The election is about having "a governor who's going to focus on creating jobs," he said. But in an interview with THE WEEKLY STANDARD Tuesday afternoon, Barrett was unable to name a single policy he'd pursue as governor in the next six months to create jobs."
"Asked by a local reporter if he would keep any of Walker's policies in place, Barrett replied: "What I'm going to look at--I'm going to look at the basic right to organize. That's where I'm going to focus my energies--to restore the right to organize and the right to bargain."

concernwi - if they want the taxpayers to pay for the services that they use, it is NOT socialism. If they do not want to pay anything for a service that others may require, then it is socialism. It is the same story time and again. They justify anything they want and will approve of any right wing logic (no matter how stupid the logic is) to get rid of what they do not want. They have little ability to reason, negotiate or compromise at all. We are dealing with some pretty sub-basement level mentality here. Why else would they be so adamant to elect someone that appears to have serious ethical, legal and maybe criminal problems?

Fedup, the Police and Firefighter's unions marched right along with the other public employees at Madison. In fact one Madison officer is discussed in the We Are Wisconsin documentary because of his involvement.

I'm sure that someone who is this against the recall and favors Gov. Walker wouldn't use socialist programs like the police or EMT's.

What's all the hoopla about a little pocket change?
All of you peasants would do well to keep your nose out of the business of the ruling class.
