WASHINGTON — Republicans drove toward recapturing control of the House for two more years on Tuesday as the two parties traded gains from the Eastern seaboard to the Southwest.

With almost two thirds of the chamber’s 435 races called by The Associated Press, Republicans had won 173 seats and were leading in 58 others. There were about 20 other seats in Western states, where polls had just closed and vote counting was beginning, where GOP incumbents were not facing serious challenges.

A party needs 218 seats to control the House.

By late evening in the East, Democrats had ousted five incumbent GOP House members to just two Democrats who were defeated by Republicans. But Republicans also picked up three open seats that had been held by Democrats who are leaving Congress.

Here's a graphic that demonstrates how unrepresentative the House is of the USA

http://awesome.good.is/transparency/web/...

Congress does not currently represent America accurately in any aspect - race, gender, sexuality, economic status, religious affiliation.

Congress is an insular community. It is rich, white, and christian male beyond what America is.

As always money plays a huge role, and this will undoubtedly continue in keeping the house misrepresentative of America. And ignorance and apathy also play a role in addition to the monied interests. In a true democracy, this tide can only be overcome for so long to this extent.

Most likely, Congress will stand out over the next 4 years as an anomoly in the political scene, out of touch and damaging to the GOP future.

Question is...are they going to continue being obstructionists or will they work to move forward?
