Republicans win back control of Wisconsin Senate
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin Republicans have reclaimed control of the state Senate, putting them a step away from free rein across state government once again.
Results from Tuesday’s elections show Republicans captured an open seat and four incumbent Republicans fended off challengers, giving them the majority.
If Republicans hold their majority in the Assembly, they’ll have complete control of state government again.
Republicans gained control of the governor’s office, the Senate and the Assembly in 2010. But Democrats wrested control of the Senate from them in June’s recall elections.
Democrats had forced Republican Gov. Scott Walker, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and four GOP senators into the recalls as payback for Walker’s law that stripped most public workers of nearly all their union rights.

916W - you said "That was an ignorant comment. Walker hardly "owes" us 200,000 jobs". OK, didn't Walker say he would create 250,000 jobs before he was elected in 2010 (I am giving him 50,000 jobs as a benefit of the doubt)? Didn't he say that same thing after he was elected in 2010? Didn't he say that same thing again prior to the recall election in 2012? Didn't he say that same thing again after the recall election? Is he a serial liar? Or was Ryan lying when he used the GM plant closing comment against Obama when he made a much less specific comment only a single time?. What is it? There is a serious lack of consistency on your part it seems.

Jasper, three days before Bush was sworn in, the Dow stood at 11723 and LOST 715 points by the second day of Bush's presidency. The Dow didn't get to 11700 again until 2006, six years later. For the record, the Dow stood at 11357 when Bush assumed office and had dropped to 8870 by election day 2008, a LOSS of 2487 points. Obama inherited a Dow average of 8870 and by Nov 2012 the Dow was at 13200 for a GAIN of 4330. Coincidence?

Walker has done an excellent job positioning Wisconsin to attract jobs but he doesn't control the entire economy so it's Obama's policies at the national level that will or won't drive the employment numbers. Look for further job losses as companies scale back further in reaction to Obama's efforts to increase payroll related taxes and health care cost.

A very similar thing happened in Minnesota in 2010 with the Republicans taking control of the state house and state senate. Thankfully, they retained a Democrat governor during those two years to hold the Republican-controlled legislature in check. After quickly losing their "laser sharp focus on jobs" and introducing two constitutional amendments to deny equal rights to same sex couples and require voter ID, both of which were soundly defeated last night, Republicans lost their control of both the state house and state senate.
Give Walker and his cronies in the state house and state senate two more years and Wisconsinites will reclaim its proud history of progressive leadership and start working to repair the damage left by Walker and his cronies.

All this has more to do with republican gerrymandering rather than the will of the people but I'm not above letting wislady, donnaw, et al have their moment here. Right now it's all they have.

In the long term, Democrats will benefit from the next two years Republicans are in the majority. Based on Walkers continued failure to grow jobs at the rate he promised, his policies have proven to be a failure. With Republicans unwilling to work with Democrats and geared up to ramrod legislation down the throats of the electorate once again, Wisconsin voters will soon realize the level of ineptitude that exists among Republican Legislators. Based on our Republican representatives inability to craft legislation designed for OUR State (relying on ALEC instead) and bearing in mind the level of incompetence Republican leaders have demonstrated thus far, irreparable harm to our environment, educational and judicial systems will soon follow. Meanwhile we’ll get stuck with the tab. Of course, the Republican majority will look to place the blame anywhere but with themselves.

With the House of Reps. still under control of the GOP. Their will be no extreme legislation from the Libs that will get turned into law.
At the same time, Walker can now move forward and clean up the rest of Wisconsin.
I can live with that.

Fordfan.......That was an ignorant comment. Walker hardly "owes" us 200,000 jobs. It would be nice if he could make good on that claim, but we all know that politicians from both sides always make campaign promises they fall short of completing. Walker has taken our state down a path where fiscal responsibility is a priority. We have a low unemployment rate, strong corporations committed to our state and a significantly reduced debt load. With the republicans in control of our legislative branch once again-and out of the reach of any obstruction- I am looking forward to continued success at the state level. We should all wish Walker and our representatives well in the continued success of our state's economy!

Walker owes us 200,000 jobs over the next two years - plus some insurance exchanges that he hasn't yet started. He has some work to do and I am not so sure that the Koch brothers are all the pleased with the return on their political investments they have made over the past couple of years.

Republicans may have taken back control of the state senate, but on union busting legislation remember the name Dale Schultz. Mr Schultz is the man in the middle and the only Republican in the state senate to really have a clue. Congrats to Obama!

Based on comments and past actions, there will be no effort to compromise, or search for solutions that work for everyone. I heard Romney brag about his ability to reach across the aisle, but it was talk only. Walker does not even talk about reaching. .. . . look out WI.
