Missing sex offender arrested in home with children
JANESVILLE--A missing registered sex offender, who was arrested by Janesville police Thursday in a home with two children, is in custody at the Rock County Jail.
The probation agent of Richard J. Hoyt, 24, of 212 ½ Linn St., notified police Hoyt had cut off his GPS tracking bracelet Oct. 30, said Sgt. Charles Aagaard.
So when Officer Brad Rau received a tip about Hoyt’s whereabouts, police were able to confirm he was staying at a residence in the 500 block of S. Academy St., he said.
After securing a consent search from the resident and doing an initial search of the home, through the use of a pole camera into the attic, Hoyt surrendered after hearing officers discuss bringing in a canine unit, Aagaard said.
Hoyt was arrested at 1 p.m. Thursday on charges of absconding from supervision and is in custody at the Rock County Jail.
Hoyt had cut off his ankle GPS tracking bracelet he was wearing from a 2010 conviction of first-degree sexual assault of a child that happened in 2008, Aagaard said.
The resident, who Hoyt was staying with, had two young boys—ages 3 and 5, he said.
Child Protective Services has removed the children from the home pending further investigation.
