The Milton School District is moving forward with a temporary replacement for Superintendent Mike Garrow, who was placed on leave in October.

The school board in a special meeting Thursday night named longtime Milton East Elementary School Principal Theresa Rusch interim superintendent.

In a news release, the board said it was glad to appoint Rusch to the position, noting that she had planned to retire at the end of the year.

Board President Rob Roy could not be reached late Thursday for details about how the district would compensate Rusch or how it would handle her positions at East and Consolidated elementary schools, where she is principal.

The district still is paying Garrow full pay and benefits. He is on an approved leave of absence through June 30.

The district initially put Garrow on leave after it received a “verbal complaint” Oct. 9 or Oct. 10 about Garrow’s conduct, Roy said. It wasn’t until Oct. 12 that Roy gave Garrow a notice that he was put on leave pending an investigation of his conduct by a board-appointed attorney.

First we were told one thing, then it was changed to another. How many different versions of the truth will we be told?

Someone makes a "verbal complaint" and the board puts Garrow on leave to investigate it. Then they found nothing. End of Story?? It obviously isn't the WHOLE story. Whew, with a familiar name now at the helm we can finally get past all of this and the board can get away without having to explain ANYTHING.

To think that an inconclusive verbal complaint can be worth $122,000. Why bother with Powerball?

I kind of think this whole business sets a bad precedent. Initially it was a death and he needed time to "pursue my dreams". Next time someone has a death in the family, they'll want the same thing and on and on it could go.
.
Then it was revealed there had been a complaint. Investigate it and move on. I've never heard of someone getting that much time off (paid) until an investigation is completed. According to him, the investigation had found nothing against him. Well then, back to work you go.

No reason why the investigation should take that long! Finish it and render a decision and either get rid of him and stop paying him, or discipline him and get him back to work.

I agree with the decision. However what I don't agree with is continuing to pay Mr. Garrow till the end of the year problem is are hands are tied because of the ongoing investigation. Now the question becomes dose the Milton School district want to keep Mr. Garrow for the 2013-2014 school year or do we begin searching for his replacement that is the question to be answered. For now though there s someone at the helm that can guide the district in the right direction. Milton High School class of 1988.

Finally - an excellent decision by the board. Mrs.Rusch possesses the skills to take the district in a more positive direction.
