Rock County unemployment rate drops
JANESVILLE--Rock County’s official unemployment rate reached a four-year low in October, but whether that’s cause for celebration remains to be seen.
The state’s Department of Workforce Development reported last week that the Janesville Metropolitan Statistical Area—which includes all of Rock County—had an October unemployment rate of 7.1 percent.
That’s still the highest of any of Wisconsin’s 12 statistical areas. Within the local area, Janesville posted an unemployment rate of 7.8 percent, while Beloit was at 9.2 percent, the sixth- and second-highest ranked cities in the state, respectively.
The local area’s rate, however, is down from the 7.9 percent posted in September and a significant improvement over October 2011, when the area unemployment rate was 8.4 percent.

nemesis The credit lies with the season and other reasons, not with who you think. frogger has it pretty much where the statistics are found. I know many earning less, some working 2 part time jobs to get by and some are still jobless.

It would be nice to see articles like this in our local news, instead of the AP or edited versions by the Madison news.

That's for sure.
Generac is hiring, Menards is hiring in Eau Claire, and flying them to Minot, N Dakota for work. Why not look at the positives in Wisconsin, we are better off than a lot of states.

Funny how those who are so quick to mock and ridicule the governor are mysteriously quiet when there is some good news.

Unemployment rates are NOT determined by unemployment benefits. They just are not. There is no direct relationship between the two. People who lose their jobs may not have the credits to collect, may be excluded for other reasons, and so on. Benefits run out, but this does not affect whether someone is looking for work, which is the definition of the standard rate of unemployment.

That is good news. Now hope they can get some companies to come into Janesville and Wisconsin That helps even more. It has been slowly dropping since the big crash and maybe the next four years will show great improvement.
