Wis. anchor: Viewer criticizing her weight 'bully’
LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) — A television anchorwoman in western Wisconsin says a man who wrote her an email criticizing her weight is a bully.
Jennifer Livingston responded to the email Tuesday morning during a 4-minute segment on WKBT-TV in La Crosse. She’s telling young viewers not to allow bullies to define their self-worth.
Livingston didn’t identify the man, who wrote that he was surprised to see her physical condition hadn’t improved for years. He wrote that he hopes she doesn’t consider herself a suitable example for young people, especially girls.
Livingston says she thought nothing of the email. But she’s angry that some children may not know to do the same when they’re criticized, or worse, by bullies.
She’s urging children who get picked on not to let bullies define them.

mteg: I think you're right. The email was rude but hardly bullying. I heard anchors talking yesterday about this & they say they get rude emails like this all the time. I think this struck a nerve with her and as such maybe she needs to reflect on why that is instead of getting on her high and mighty soap box acting like a victim & blowing this beyond out of proportion. Who knows maybe she's looking for the next Karen the Bus Monitor Fund to be set up for her or a deal with Weight Watchers. Whatever her goal - her 15 minutes is up as far as I'm concerned. Move on to a real issue.

There's a difference between fat and obese...Fat would be a general comment based on appearence (that probably would be taken as degrading). Obese on the other hand has to do with a medical issue...or issues related to obesity. Is she over weight...based on the antiquated BMI chart-yes. Is she healthy...only her and her doctor would know. Does her appearence hurt ratings? Probably not which is why she still has a job. Was the email bullying...probably not. For starters, she is in the public eye...daily, so she should be used to public criticism. Some people might not like her hair, her dress, etc... It was just his opinion and he voiced it. Is he a bully...only if he continued taunting her to spark a reaction...or did it to get some personal gratification. Her response leads me to believe that this is something that bothers her...and that something like an email was enough to trigger an emotional response from her.

I hardly think the email at issue rises to the level of bullying. If you ask me this is a tv reporter and her tv anchor spouse trying to get their 15 minutes for someone simply pointing out the truth, which is that she is seriously overweight. Is it nice? Of course not, but give me a break. She works in an industry that is about image, so suck it up and deal with it.

I hope the individual who sent her the email doesn't consider himself to be a suitable example for young people, especially those of the human race.
BTW, not that it matters but the emails author has been identified and is a lawyer.

There is a very big difference between disrespectful, bullying, personal attacks and expressing one's opinion. If you cannot comprehend that, you are part of the problem.

Her message is great I think, BUT, why does everyone feel they are a victim of bullying?? I saw the email and though I thought it was rude and misplaced, although not entirely untrue, it hardly qualified as "bullying" in my eyes.

Offensive? yeah, rude? yeah could it have been dealt with differently? of course. Bullying? Please, you were offended, learn to deal with it. You're not a victim of bullying in this case.

Nowadays in WI, Ms. Livingston could easily go by the broadcasting name of "Anna Reczik"...she's virtually "wasting away" by today's "standards" in this state and country!
And shame on some viewer for having and sharing "his" opinion - doesn't "he" know that just about any opinion this or that side of "have a nice day" is not to be tolerated in this PC-drenched society! After all - the PC police are here to make sure that we shan't forget that everyone's a special "snowball" and gets a participant award just for showing up (or maybe even texting in if they can't get off the couch)!

Bowlgirl I see you post right and have not a clue to the real world This was not about politics. I guess you can't help yourself. Like the rest of the Zing-a-ling supporters. The sad thing is that bullying is wrong at any age.

It's a good story about the way some people, out of ignorance, mistreat other fellow human beings and I applaud Jennifer Livingston. It’s sad that some people feel the need to interject political comments as a response; another sign of ignorance regardless of what emoticon you attach. JMO

nurse4u, are you suggesting that Coach Abby lives in a glass house and shouldn't throw stones? Are you a bully?
I see you post left on politics so maybe you can't help yourself.
Just remember, you are beautiful and we love you. ;)

It amazes me that grown adults still have the potential to be a Bully. There is So much pain in this world, and then we have sadistic individuals who get off on making others hurt. SMH. THIS is a perfect example on why so many teenagers have eating disorders or commit suicide. JUST REMEMBER: YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL & WE LOVE YOU!

The most awesome way I've seen some handle a bully is this woman. Wow!

If he doesn't like what he sees, he should pick another station. Apparently her employer has hired her for her abilities, not her ability to make hearts race. OH STINKING WELL! Unless maybe she hosts the health segment, it has absolutely nothing to do with her performance.
