Ryan challenger outraises him in 3rd quarter

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The relatively unknown Democratic challenger to Paul Ryan in his congressional race says he raised more money than the Republican vice presidential candidate.
Ryan reported Thursday that he raised $567,000 from July through September. His challenger Rob Zerban says he raised $770,000.

State law allows Ryan to run for both re-election to Congress and vice president, but if Mitt Romney is elected president Ryan would have to give up the seat he’s held since 1999.

While Zerban outraised Ryan during the three-month period, Ryan still has $4 million cash on hand. Zerban has only raised about half that. He did not say how much cash he has on hand.

Ryan has been running ads for weeks in the Madison and Milwaukee markets, while Zerban has yet to run any.

Odd, I have seen zero ads for Rob Zerban. Is he running a scam?

@westorbest: Hate to disappoint but the first district isn't just Janesville. Suburban Milwaukee loves him!

Totellthetruth, your comment could be said about BOTH candidates, it's a major problem with our current system, especially Citizens United.

Paul Ryan has skated by under the radar for years. There is no major media market in the district making it very easy to get reelected without big money. Zerban doesn't have a snowball's chance but it's good to see someone challenging Ryan. Perhaps it will inspire a stronger candidate to go after Ryan's seat in the next election when Ryan will still be occupying it.

Zeban hasn't run any ads because he has nothing worthwhile to say! He and his minions keep harping about a debate with the Congressman. Would he first please come out with some in-depth solutions to the issues facing the country. Bashing Paul is not a reason to vote for this imposter.

Ryan hasn't been in the district for more than 2 days in a row since the beginning of August. The fact he raised almost $600,000 for his congressional campaign is astonishing.

Ryan doesn't need to raise money. He is the favorite and will be re-elected. $200,000 buys a couple of commercials. Big deal. Not even news-worthy imo.

Good for Zerban. Ryan's been riding the coat tails of being a down home good ole' boy for his entire political career, even when his professed beliefs clash with many in his own home town, yet people give him a pass because he's a Janesville boy. Time for a change.
