Milwaukee newspaper stops making endorsements
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has decided to stop making political endorsements in most races.
Editorial page editor David Haynes wrote in a column Friday (http://bit.ly/Y34vba ) that making endorsements puts readers’ perceptions of the newspaper’s independence at risk during the election season.
He said there would be rare occasions they recommend a candidate, like when they endorsed Gov. Scott Walker in the June recall. The editorial board thought the effort wasn’t reasonable over a policy dispute.
He called endorsements “a relic of a time when every town had more than one newspaper.” He said readers now have a wide array of commentary available.
Haynes said the newspaper’s editorial board would continue to share opinions on political issues but they will leave the final voting decisions up to the voters.

Actually I think they are so embarrassed that they endorsed Walker in the recall that they are afraid to show their face. Not so for the Gazette. It will be all Republican endorsements except for one or two Democrats so they can claim they are unbiased. Count them as they are announced.
