MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The state has entered into a settlement to pay more than $257,000 in attorneys’ fees in a lawsuit brought by a group of Democrats who sued over newly drawn legislative boundaries.

The agreement to pay $257,500 to the law firm of Godfrey and Kahn was filed in federal court in Milwaukee on Wednesday.

The deal was agreed to by those who brought the lawsuit and the state Department of Justice.

Democrats and an immigrant-rights group challenged the constitutionality of the maps drawn by the Republican Legislature last year. They alleged in part that a new boundary unfairly divided one solid Latino bloc into two weaker ones.

A panel of three federal judges upheld most of the borders but ordered that a boundary between two Hispanic-rich Milwaukee districts be adjusted.

Since every redistricting has ended in a court fight, for the last 6 decades, how is this one any different...more partisan blinders.

The ignorance over political boundaries is absurd. Boundaries are drawn for political reasons, like they have always been, not on color issues. If the recently righteous left fringe had any credibility they would have screamed racism when this solid Hispanic district was created the first time....guess they want to ignore which party was in charge at that time.

Hypocrites.

Just dont hide it!! Tell people what your doing and why. whats the secrets and hiding for? You dont call it racism? I believe it to be so, dividing a voting district STRICTLY because of race. What else would you call that? Talk about fringe!! Just because you deny being a racist doesnt mean your not one. the truest definition of divide and conquer. If not racism then EXPLAIN a logical reason why they would draw the line in that way? Can you? Or can you just repeat, left fringe?

Fedupchucktaxpayer is full of angst when he/she believes Democrats have misspent taxpayer money. Yet when Republicans waste taxpayer funds all he/she can do is divert from the real issue and bring in the straw man. The settlement should be paid by the Republicans, not taxpayers. We already paid Republican legislators to draw up new districts but evidently they weren't smart enough to do it on their own.

In your favor is one thing, to deliberately break up districts based on racial composition is another. the facts are the facts, this was a very racially motivated attempt by the Republicans to sway the electorate. Every 10 years the lines are redrawn, YES, can anyone ever remember the level of secrecy? I certainly cannot!! Just re-draw the lines in your favor and don't do it to the point where you are breaking apart large Latino neighborhoods to break demographics in your favor!! OR if that is the game you are playing......ADMIT it, dont deny it!! They didnt over turn this because its a big lie, they did it because its the truth!

Racism? Give me a break. Re-districting is done every 10 years, and the party in control always draws the lines to their advantage.

The racism by the Walker worshippers and the Republicans in admitting their guilt in redistricting makes me ashamed of Wisconsin right now
