JANESVILLE--Mercy Health System has again been recognized nationally as one of the best employers for working mothers.

Working Mother magazine this week named the Janesville-based health system as one of its 2012 Working Mother 100 Best Companies.

The magazine rewarded companies based on an array of progressive workplace programs, including child care, flexibility, advancement and paid family leave.

In addition, it named Mercy one of the top 10 companies for health and wellness.

I love to see both businesses and employees giving thought to work/life balance. That is the best thing about my job. If I am needed elsewhere, I am there. And I would not give that up for any amount of money.

I am sure those who have the ability to flex do not have direct contact with patients. Direct patient involvement requires 24/7 staff which requires a schedule to maintain that coverage. I've worked on both sides of the fence. There are options available if it works for the dept, i.e. trading shifts with someone. Create solutions, not conflict.

for those replying favorably, may I ask what department you are referring to that offers such flexibility? The department I am talking about offers no flexibility and it's the manager's way or the highway.

Very interesting, because the wages they offer (clerical) are far lower than the rest of the marketplace. I know they offer some discounts and in-house benefits but paying a fair wage in the first place would go much further to benefit moms and all of their employees.

I work for Mercy and I love my job. I don't have kids yet but I work with several great full time moms. Mercy provides flexible work hours, discounts and the leadership staff is remarkable in providing work/life balance. They constantly reward their employees. They have the best employee benefits as well. I feel not only valued by Mercy but also feel lucky to work for such a wonderful health system.

I work for Mercy and am a mom to two little girls. I left my last job because of the lack of flexibility and work/life balance. Mercy is 110% different and better. From flex scheduling, to partner discounts, working out for free at cardiac rehab, family picnics and holiday parties, Mercy is truly an awesome place for working moms.

Based on my experience working for Mercy I would disagree.

This has got to be a joke.

So this is what their main focus is on. Maybe they should focus more on health care?

OMG! I'm laughing at this! This obviously does NOT include all the departments at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. Don, are you laughing at this too?
