Federal panel to hear arguments in Wisconsin union case

CHICAGO--Several Wisconsin unions are challenging the constitutionality of Gov. Scott Walker’s controversial law that restricted collective bargaining by public employees.
Arguments are scheduled to start before the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago on Monday.
In March, U.S. District Judge William Conley overturned a part of the law requiring that unions hold elections each year for members to retain their official status. The judge also said the law illegally halted automatic withdrawal of union dues. The majority of the law remained untouched.
The lawsuit is one of three pending in state or federal courts. A state court Sept. 14 threw out major parts of the 2011 law. The state is also appealing that ruling.

What's more important to the patriots - our tea party agenda for the wealthy (like greedy NFL owners) or a Packer Super Bowl?

Retiredmilitary: IMO lots of presidents would take that title long before Mr. Reagan. He negoitiated from a power of strength. Note the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Union. At that time our Allies trusted us and our enemies feared us. After a world wide apology tour and a request by our current President to the Russian ambassador to ask Putin to back off on complaints about European missle defense systems until after he was reelected and could more freely negoitate (close to treason imo) ... our Allies do not trust us and our enemies do not fear us. Just saying.

You know this reminds me of something that President Regan talked about in the 1980's when he gave a speach about what unions are about." But restoring the American dream requires more than restoring a sound, productive economy, vitally important as that is. It requires a return to spiritual and moral values, values so deeply held by those who came here to build a new life. We need to restore those values in our daily life, in our neighborhoods and in our government’s dealings with the other nations of the world.

These are the values inspiring those brave workers in Poland. The values that have inspired other dissidents under Communist domination. They remind us that where free unions and collective bargaining are forbidden, freedom is lost. They remind us that freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. You and I must protect and preserve freedom here or it will not be passed on to our children. Today the workers in Poland are showing a new generation not how high is the price of freedom but how much it is worth that price.

re: "THUG CITY" comment - All you need after that for your dramatic comment is a little of the waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa so we can hear the crying loud enough. Walker needs to remember he is NOT the King. Act 10 violates the U.S & Wisconsin Constitutions and as the Judge has stated - "Null And Void" - It does not take a rocket scientist to figure this out.
Good info. from a Law Firm from another state and their take on the law.

zdog: Have to agree that insurance companies are already dictating medical care along with some government interference also. That is why I am leery of having them both take over for my doctor. Recent example: Onset of ragweed induced nasal drainage along with insufficient control of acid reflux from current medicine was causing problems. E.N.T. doctor prescibed Nasonex and a Proton Pump Inhibitor(acid reflux) to replace current medicine to try to treat it better. Got to pharmacy to discover ... Nasonex required preauthorization for coverage (doctor changed prescription) and that the UAW Retiree Health Care Fund no longer paid for ANY PPI medicine. The Dexetrell was $171 for one month so told them to keep it. Ended up getting over the counter generic for about $30 a month to try. Results TBD. What does ths have to do with the government? Current administration dictated that Chrysler (I am a retiree) join with Fiat and that instead of the lump sum agreed upon in just signed contract be given by Chrysler to the UAW Retiree Health Care Fund, only 50% of the agreed on amount was to go to the Fund and the other 50% go in the form of yet-to-be-issued new Chrysler Stock. The Health Care Fund had half the money and worthless paper consisting of 65% of the new Chrysler stock. Hope was that eventually Chrysler would bounce back, issue new stock, and the Health Fund sell the stock to fund health care. Instead, Chrysler is bouncing back, no new stock issued yet, and the present administration along with the UAW has given 30 of the 65% ownership to Fiat for meeting certain targets without the Health Care Fund getting a penny for it. So each year an independent board figures out what else to take away from retiree health care to make the money last since it is only 1/2 of the original agreed upon amount. This especially impacts retirees under the age of 65. So yes, I agree .... And frankly, it bugs me when our President brags of saving the auto industry. As far as I am concerned, his administration, Chrysler/Fiat, and the UAW threw their retirees under the bus. May have been better off going through normal bankruptcy and picking up the pieces. At least then I would have known where I stood instead of having the pieces keep falling every year.

this argument that obamacare puts the healthcare decisions in the hands gov't officials and not in the hands of Doctors and patients if laughable.
_
What do you think is going on NOW???? If you think the decisions are being made for YOUR best interest you're sorely mistaken. Millions of Americans recieve care according to what type of insurance company they have.
-
I had a patient who's brother died and he had TWO insurance companies. he had Kidney failure and was getting twice weekly dialysis. BOTH of his insurance companies, his and his wife's under which he was also covered and they paid into were fighting over who had to pay and what so NEITHER was paying.
-
After bills started adding up in the 10's of thousands, this guy skipped his treatments because he didn't want to burden his family anymore with medical bills and money they didn't have. All the while his private insurers denied paying any bills when they should have been paying all along.
-
he shouldn't have skipped that week, but he did, and he died because of it. If you don't think there aren't tremendous problems now you're ignorant. things like this aren't uncommon under today's rules.

Joy do you have health insurance right now? Than you don't have your health and well being in your own hands. You are at the mercy (no pun intended) of the insurance company. Do they have your best intentions in mind? No they have their own profit margin in mind.

Concerned, the polls don't really matter. The final vote tally does. Not sure anyone voted for Obama thinking he was going to put medical necessity decisions in the hands of bureaucrats instead of the patient's actual medical providers. So, perhaps they didn't get what they thought they voted for, either. We'll see in a few weeks. But the day I choose to put MY life and well-being in the hands of government, well, what am I saying? I would never willingly do so.

Seeing as Walker didn't lay out Act 10 until after he was elected and "dropped the bomb", it can only be argued that the voters voted for this idea once. Many of the polls showed that the recall election was more of a referendum on recall's themselves than on Walker or his policies.

Also Joy, the exact same could be said about the challenges to Obamacare. The money spent it could have been put into medicare and social security.

Joy to be fair, the unions didn't create the law the Governor did. The unions were happy to negotiate, Walker was the one who said my way.

These unions are going to make sure the taxpayers pay dearly no matter what...first $13 million for the recalls, now for all the legal fees and court time...that much less available for our children and the truly necessary government expenses.

Before we get into all of the our elected officials created this law arguments, let's remember that Obamacare was challenged in court by the republicans. It does go both ways.

I heard Gov. Walker is going to make state employees clear the roads this winter with snow shovels in their bare feet. Please make sure the unions get money so these poor people are represented.
