MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Local unemployment rates across Wisconsin are dropping.

The latest report from the state Department of Workforce Development shows that unemployment rates in every major city dropped between July and August.

Unemployment also went down in all but three Wisconsin counties. Rates increased only in Florence, Grant and Menominee counties.

The preliminary unemployment rates for local areas are not seasonally adjusted, subject to significant revision, and not directly comparable with the statewide figures.

Unemployment ranged from a low of 5 percent in Dane County to a high of 21.9 percent in Menominee County.

Racine had the highest unemployment rate of any city at 12.1 percent, followed by Beloit at 11.8 percent.

The statewide rate for August was 7.5 percent.

I wonder how the headlines " State Employment Picture Brightens" feels to the 200 ready, willing, and able workers who are being laid off from Lands End. Where is this state headed under the promises and leadership of the current Governor. I thought he was elected on the premise of job creation.

I'm Barak Obama and I approve that message of misery.
Has anyone ever tried to get out of quick sand? 29 GOP Governors have an overall lower unemployment rate that the other Dem Governors.
That quick sand is Obama and in 40 days we can pull America out of it.

All this means is that people are dropping off the unemployment rolls faster than they are adding. Dropping off does not mean they are employed - it means they have exhausted their benefits. But really, I don't blame Walker or Obama. They don't create jobs. Employers are just working the daylights out of their employees and not hiring. "Work 'em to the bone because they're luck to have a job" And nobody dares complain....

Well, when you go through as many secretaries and administrators as DWD has in the last few months your bound to find staff that will get the numbers you want to see.....right numbers....or wrong numbers - whichever side you're on. Who really knows?

This only records the people that are still filing. The rate is more around 18-20%. How do they keep track of employment if people can't file for it anymore?

More people are moving out of state to find jobs that might be some of reason the percent is going down?

cheese: Just remember who signed NAFTA into law, your union buddy a DEMOCRAT.

The biggest farce is that democrats actually believe the union has their best interests and democratic politicians care about the middle class.

Cheeseboard: Dealerships closed old and moved to new locations. Menards closed old store when it opened new store. Damons closed but Texas Roadhouse opened. Stores have been changing in the Mall all the time rather good times or bad. Janesville plant closed, Mexican plant opened.

cheese...somebody must be adding more than are being cut or the unemployment rates wouldn't have gone down...and I don't believe that many people dropped out of the job search just between July and August.

So who gets credit, Walker or Obama? Let the debate begin.

And which side will be the first to degrade the other? Play nice, kids.
