ALBION—The cause of a fire that destroyed a rural Albion home late Saturday night remains under investigation, but it is not considered suspicious, Edgerton Fire Chief Brian Demrow said.

Firefighters were dispatched to 1460 County A at 9:03 p.m. Saturday and found the older, two-story home engulfed in flames. The residents had been away and found the house on fire when they returned, Demrow said.

No injuries were reported. Demrow said he didn’t have a damage estimate, but he said the house was completely destroyed.

Investigation of the cause continued Monday.

"Everything is all right down in the basement. It’s going to be hard to decipher what it is," Demrow said.

Firefighters from Evansville, town of Turtle, Whitewater, Stoughton, Cambridge and Fort Atkinson fire departments assisted.

The home is owned by Henry Bratland and was occupied by Bratland’s son and grandchildren, Demrow said.
