MADISON—The latest version of a bill designed to pave the way for a new iron ore mine to be opened in northern Wisconsin is scheduled to be voted on by a pair of legislative committees.
The measure is up for a vote Wednesday in committees in both the Senate and Assembly.
Republican lawmakers and Gov. Scott Walker are hoping to act quickly on the measure, which they say will improve the state’s regulatory process and lead to the creation of hundreds of jobs at a new mining site near Lake Superior.
The bill’s backers unveiled a series of changes on Monday they say include ideas from Democratic opponents and improve the proposal.
But Democratic critics say there are still not enough environmental protections.

The Republicans will only be happy when a mining bill is pasted that was written by the mining company themselves. I'm confused, when teachers want input into teach conditions by ways of negotiations, it's a bad thing. When a mining company wants to "streamline" the process that would already allow a mine to be started by following rules that are in place to help protect the environment it's a good thing?

The dems only want the mining companies to follow OUR rules to protect OUR state, rivers, forests, drinking water, air ect....
.
What do you expect when the repubs let the out-of-state mining company write a mining bill? Do you think THEY are worried about tearing up WI? It seems the repubs are working for the money people INSTEAD of working for the WI residents.

I guess that explains why they've bothered to draw up their own version of the bill which neither "completely" nor "forever" bans mining operations in Wisconsin.

What's next, changing our state flag to remove the miner?

Again, the democrats will never be happy with the bill no matter what changes were made unless mining is completely and forever banned in Wisconsin.
