Environmentalists dust off TV ad slamming Wis. mining bill
Environmentalists are re-cycling a television ad imploring the state Senate to kill a bill that would overhaul Wisconsin’s mining regulations.
Republicans introduced a bill in January designed to help Gogebic Taconite open an iron mine near Lake Superior. Opponents say the bill would lead to devastating pollution.
The League of Conservation Voters announced Thursday it was running an ad statewide saying the bill would expose families to deadly chemicals and asking people to call senators and tell them to stop the measure. The bill’s author, Republican Sen. Tom Tiffany, says the group is lying about the bill.
The organization ran the same ad during a debate on a nearly identical mining bill last year. Gogebic Taconite officials dismissed the ad then as fear-mongering.

I would like to see Gazette staff include the identity of every bill about which it writes, such as "AB12345" or "S6789".
. . .
Doing so would be a convenient aid for any and all readers to get into their search engine and look into the bill in question. Perhaps other newspapers would catch on to that practice, too, with end result being that more Badgers would look into what our Legislators are involved with.
. . .
Optimistically, perhaps more of those Badgers would then actively contact their representatives with suggests and critical feedback. Bad laws are, in my opinion, partly due to "We the People" taking an active roll in our law makers' affairs.
