JANESVILLE--A Janesville man was sentenced today to life in prison for the death of his estranged wife.

Krystofer R. R. Carlisle, 54, of 315 W. Racine St., Janesville, pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree intentional homicide

Carlisle was arrested Dec. 12 at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, Janesville. On Dec. 8, police found Carlisle’s estranged wife, Traci Moyer, 46, dead in the home the couple formerly shared on Racine Street. Moyer had filed for divorce in November and lived elsewhere in Janesville with her daughters.

An autopsy revealed Moyer died of strangulation.

Police found Carlisle on the bed next to Moyer. He was unconscious and breathing shallowly, according to court documents.

He pleaded not guilty Jan. 8 to a charge of first-degree intentional homicide.

An additional sentencing hearing will take place in May to determine whether Carlisle will be eligible for parole.
